Why is Gervonta Davis so over-protected?

Davis turns 26 this week. He's three years older than Teofimo Lopez, and yet Gervonta hasn't taken on a challenge yet.

While Davis avoided Lomachenko, waiting for him to get old, Lopez stepped up and fought him, earning everyone's respect.

Davis instead fights faded guys like Santa Cruz who move up from smaller weight divisions.

Why is he so over-protected? Why does Floyd Mayweather have so little confidence in him?

He is not overprotected at. He is being developed into a PPV superstar. The person who was overprotected was Lomachenko who took on a protective custody franchise belt.

I think he should take on better opposition if he wants to be a PPV star.

There are lots of talented boxers his own size (Lopez, Garcia, Loma, etc) so why fight smaller faded guys like Santa Cruz? Lopez stepped up at age 23 to fight the Ring champion at lightweight, why does Davis (3 years older) need to wait?

If only he had begun his pro career in his late 20s and been spoon fed easy title shots we might have a superstar on our hands....

Sorry man, this is just straight up bull****. And I'm from Baltimore like Gervonta Davis. I've been a big supporter of Davis on these boards and have called him the most talented fighter 130 and below. But he's extremely protected. It's obvious and a blind man can see it. He fights blown up Featherweights and ran from Loma. He's running from Berchelt, Lopez, Haney, Campbell, etc.

The guy hasn't done jack since he beat Pedraza. That's an honest objective assessment. But luckily for him he has a long career ahead of him to get things moving.

I was the same way with Wilder. I keep it consistent. The bum tour and knockouts were exciting for a while, but then I finally reached a tipping point where I said enough. And withdrew my support of Wilder.

So the guy running up weight's unifying was protected... But the little lardarse who can't make weight is being developed into a p4p star???? He's not even close to a p4p star.

No idea why he's being overprotected.. Tank should be thrown in the deep end.. Kids got power and serious talent and could do some damage... He should be going for all the big names by now n should have been since he banged out pedraza

Loma was never overprotected. He just lost fair and square. Big difference.

He is with Floyd so keeping the "0" is the top priority. I like Tank but all he talks about is being on ppv and I just don't see him developing into a ppv star. Doesn't have the looks or personality in my opinion. The guy can barely string two sentences together. Curious to see what the Santa Cruz fight sold. But yeah, there are so many good fighters around that weight and he isn't fighting any of them. We'll see

He is the only thing TMT promotion has. All the other boxers in their stable are just average and it seems like every time they step up they lose. Floyd is protecting his only potential star.

Trying to build him in to a PPV star is a sham. That's basically marketing/PR crap based on selling a product to the general public. Tank had a spectacular win this weekend. But he's been living off the Pedraza win for too long now. His skillset and power should be shown more to the public against legitimate contenders, or anyone else in the tough LW division. HIs next fight will tell us a lot about how confident TMT really is on their guy.

When the hell did multiple weight world champion LSC become faded. If Teo wants him he can get it but he is moving up to 140. Loma is still going to get it when Tank turns him into No Mas Chenko.

So why take a belt of protective custody.

Teo did a good job on Loma as I predicted but Tank is going to do it properly with a brutal knockout if Papachenko allows it.
