How would a prime Tommy Morisson and Ray Mercer stand up against Fury, Wilder, or Joshua?

I think Mercer would have beaten Wilder... Rays chin was world class. As for Aj and Fury I think they would have both beaten Ray And Tommy. Both would have had a punchers chance with Aj but that’s about it.

 

Mercer had an iron chin and a world class jab. I'd pick him to beat all three. Fury would give him the toughest test though. The top three of today haven't really faced much for me to pick them over others yet. Fury w/ his size and agility is the only one who I'd say makes a good fight w/ anyone.

 

Ray Mercer was genuinely a decent fighter. I had him only losing by 1 point against a prime Lewis in a 10 rounder.

So I definitely think a prime Mercer was capable of beating Wilder and AJ. You do need to tell me which versions of both. But in general his prime beats all versions of Wilder. He beats most versions of AJ too.

I dont think Fury is a great match up for Mercer though if Fury is really prime.

Other than the Pajkic and Firtha versions and earlier, it is clear wins for Fury. After his 23rd fight, every version of Fury is victorious other than Seferi, Pianeti and Schwarz.

 

Tommy vs Wilder. Most likely Tommy via stoppage.

 

Mercer V Wilder:
At his absolute best I'd unconfidently pick Mercer to beat Wilder

Mercer V Joshua:
I think he loses a close MD against AJ

Mercer V Fury
I think he loses a competitive but clear decision to Fury.


Morrison V Wilder:
50/50 fight, but I think Wilder gets to him first and knocks him out cold.

Morrison V Joshua:
I think this would basically just be a Povetkin v AJ repeat

Morrison V Fury:
Fury has a few shaky moments,but survives and stops a tired Morrison

 

I think Morrison would have a puncher's chance against both Wilder and AJ, and possibly a good one at that since Wilder is lacking in the skills department and AJ might have suspect whiskers. The fly in the ointment for Tommy is that both AJ and Wilder are huge punchers and his own chin has been smashed by lesser hitters. It'd be interesting seeing him against Fury. He's got a big punch and Fury does not. I'm guessing Fury uses his size and skill to ride out the early rounds and stop him mid to late. That said, I think if Tommy gets Fury into trouble he'll finish the job, unlike Wilder.

Mercer I think would be Wilder's kryptonite. Wilder takes a few rounds to dial in the right hand, and Mercer would throw him off his game with his own power punching and jab, and of course, his great chin. I think Fury would be Mercer's kryptonite. Mercer has never had the fastest feet, and I foresee a boring type of UD where Ray plods after Fury eating endless potshots. Mercer / AJ would be interesting. If AJ tries to bomb him out, Mercer might well weather the storm, and if AJ gasses as he often does, it's going to be a repeat of Morrison/Mercer. Joshua's best bet would be to adopt the Ruiz 2 gameplan, and outpoint Mercer handily over the stretch.

Depends what version of Mercer shows up. The Mercer at his peak probably discourages and stops Wilder, gives AJ and Fury good fights but loses decisions to both

 

Mercer beats wilder but gets outboxed by fury and AJ.

Morrison vs Wilder:winner is whoever lands first.
Fury and AJ both stop Morrison

 

With Mercer it depends which Mercer we see, the out of shape one who tried to bribe Ferguson loses to all of them but the one that gave Holyfield and Lewis very competitive fights would be dangerous.

Against Joshua and Wilder his granite chin would negate their huge power and he'd always be a threat in spurts. Joshua would have to box and move like he did in the Ruiz rematch. I don't think Joshua can trade with Mercer like Lewis did because he couldn't set the pace Lewis did as he's never thrown as many punches as Lewis did in that fight and even if he could it could expose him to getting caught and hurt, if Ruiz Jr could upset Joshua then so could Mercer if Joshua makes the same mistakes. But overall I favour Joshua if he boxes.

Wilder is going to struggle with Mercer, he's struggled with far inferior fighters. Wilder's usual, be out boxed and then land a huge bomb would probably backfire against a guy as durable as Mercer. Maybe Wilder's power can bail him out but there's a real chance it wouldn't. But Wilder could win simply because Mercer even at his best only fought in spurts. If Wilder can set a high pace he could out work Mercer over 12 rounds but the risk there is that much like in his earlier fights when he was more proactive he finds himself getting caught more and if Molina can rock him badly Mercer could KO him. 50/50 fight in my opinion, Wilder might be able to win a decision but maybe he get KTFO too.

Fury I see out boxing Mercer. Mercer will no doubt have moments of success but I think Fury would win a comfortable decision.

Morrison I wouldn't favour over any of them. Joshua is prone to getting hurt by left hands and Morrison does have a hell of a left hook, he could very well give Joshua some problems early but he eventually gets caught, probably by an uppercut and gets KO'd before he can KO Joshua.

Wilder against may have some issues with Morrison. But I suspect he gets to Morrison first before Morrison can land a big left hook.

Fury out boxes Morrison and then stops him.

 

Pretty much 6/6 and most of the other views are very similar.

I'd rate the Mercer who so narrowy lost to Lewis as a respectable say 40:60 shot against Fury, and favourite against the other two, strong favourite in Wilder's case.

Tommy I don't think could beat Fury or even Joshua, maybe a narrow outsider against Wilder.

 

They both KO Wilder.
