Technical or tactical changes that might've helped past fighters?

Surely most of us have at some time or another watched an old fight and picked up on things that we felt that a fighter could've done differently and better. Do any examples come to mind?

*This was partly inspired by the thread from the poster who feels that he maybe could've made something out of Tommy Loughran, but I'm being sincere.

I can give you a real one.
A fighter that I worked with on his way up fought for a world title against a taller man. After the first couple rounds the tall guy got his jab working and the fighter that I had worked with had no answer for it.
When I worked with him I tried to show him how to close distance on a taller fighters jab, he patiently explained to me that he was always taller than his opponents and didn't need to learn that. Any time I brought it around to that he gave me the same response.
When I watched his world title fight I wondered if he remembered that.

This. You can give guys the right advice, but unfortunately you can’t make them take it. Some guys just like to learn things the hard way.

I don't think anybody in the world could teach a dog to box.

What did you try and teach him specifically?

Straight right hand to the heart as a counter to the jab. If you time it correctly and throw your right as he throws his jab, it is a natural counter, the motion of throwing the right hand is the exact same as the motion of an inside slip.
When you coordinate the feet and step in with the right hand, you come back with a left hook and the left hook is this fighters best punch.

True...but cats. on the other hand are exceptional boxers...and can jab, throw combinations, usually have blazing hand speed, display a very flexible spine in combat, ect.,...

There's a breed of dog called "the boxer." Explain that.

I should have trained Tommy Loughran!

Also, I would have told Toney to keep his right hand right below his right jaw to be able to both defend against hooks and parry jabs, the latter without having to square up.

Well I just so happen to think that Pat M could train one to beat Greb. So there. Especially a modern boxer dog and not one from the 20s.
