These were the top 10 heavies when Bruno was the WBC champ: Champion: Frank Bruno 1. Mike Tyson 2. Lennox Lewis 3. Oliver McCall 4. Tony Tucker 5. Henry Akinwande 6. Alexander Zolkin 7. Jeremy Williams 8. Larry Donald 9. Evander Holyfield 10. Andrew Golota How would the fighters in this list fare in today`s heavyweight division?
WBC Top 10 then vs. WBC top 10 now Champ Frank Bruno vs Champ Tyson Fury = Fury 1. Mike Tyson vs. Deontay Wilder = Toss up 2. Lennox Lewis vs. Oleksandr Usyk = Lewis handily 3. Oliver McCall vs. Luis Ortiz = Ortiz 4. Tony Tucker vs. Andy Ruiz = Probably Ruiz, since this is the Tucker who lost to Seldon and Norris 5. Henry Akinwande vs. Dillian Whyte = Akinwande 6. Alexander Zolkin vs. Joseph Parker = Parker 7. Jeremy Williams vs. Daniel Dubois = Probably Dubois, will know more after the Joyce fight 8. Larry Donald vs. Oscar Rivas = Donald 9. Evander Holyfield vs. Filip Hrgovic = Holyfield 10. Andrew Golota vs. Michael Hunter = Golota was in his prime, so Golota I have it 5-5 with one Toss-up
Usyk is more skilled than Mercer was and has a better defense than anybody Lewis fought, Lewis never fought a southpaw as good as Usyk.
Lewis nearly lost to Mercer around this time, Fury would have beating Mercer easily as would Usyk, Lewis looked awful v Mercer.
Maybe so, but can't see Lewis taking the top guy s today lightly. And when Lewis is determined he's bloody hard to beat.
All due respect to @Mark, but I agree with @Ra's Al-Ghul Though Mike was an obvious notch down from the fighter he was in the 80s, he was still more than skilled enough to beat even a prime Wilder. Holy was able to not just outpsych Mike, but outbox and beat him to the punch, again and again. The only thing Wilder would have over 90s Mike would be a significantly more powerful right hand and reach/height. I just don't see that as being enough. And to be more clear, I'm talking about the Ruddock and pre-Holy Mike Tyson.
Tyson obliterates Wilder. Even post prison 1996 Leg-Iron Mike. The only fighters of today that I'd pick over the 90's bunch are Fury over Bruno and Parker over Zolkin.
