Football PPV Shamed and Gone - over to you Boxing

No chance of this happening in the near future.

 

I don't follow football.
What happened ?
Didn't they only recently bring PPV in ?

 

They started making the games that weren't due to be televised available on a PPV basis at the bargain basement price of fifteen ****ing quid per match.

To their credit, fans responded by sacking off the PPV and raising money for food banks instead.

The PR hit has been considerable and likely not worth whatever the matches are bringing in.

 

Its only £20. Thats £1 each if u get 50 mates round. Come on eddies done so much for british boxing. AJ and whyte beat muhammad ali

 

If you can afford to buy your kids schoolbooks and clothes and barely put food on the table, you can afford a PPV! Stop being a tight arse

 

Think the usyk v Chisora bombed, that’s why they canned the Whyte ppv this month.

boxing ppvs are weird, as not a lot of genuine boxing fans buy them, as we know what the cards worth etc

ppvs are bought by a lot of casual fans who by into the hype, I don’t think that will ever change and ppv is here for good.

people love a good fight, have done for thousands of years. Sadly people with no interests in the sport hate the idea of missing out on a “big event” and again will buy it.

Sky tried a PPV model for football before and that failed. There is sooooo much football on the telly that you cant really make it PPV.

 

Tbf I don't think we've heard the last of the football PPVs. I think either the price will be reduced to something in the region of £5.99 or the "big" games will be made available at a PPV price in excess of £10.

With boxing, PPVs will never disappear but certainly in these times of recession, Sky and BT should be pricing them fairly, certainly below £10.

We know boxers are missing out on gate revenue ATM but why must boxers continue to earn mega millions while ordinary people have literally lost their livelihoods or are currently earning 80% of their wage on furlough with massive uncertainty about their futures? If they refuse to fight for less tell them to sit out the year until fans come back and give us boxers like Hunter to watch who is willing to fight for little money.

Even many footballers have accepted wage deferrals or wage cuts (loads of clubs in the Scottish top flight have), so why not boxers?

 

Understand the point you're making but with boxing the likes of AJ, Whyte and the other PPV 'stars' only fight at most twice a year thus making their bouts one off 'events' that 'can't be missed' (cheers Eddie) while all the top football clubs for 9 months of the years play at least once a week. Boxing matches for 'titles' that are hyped constantly for months on SSN and social media are an easier sell than a football match involving teams that play once a week.
Obviously anyone with a clue and a bit of common sense will be hoping that the failure of the PL PPV debacle will have a knock on effect to boxing PPV's and I'm not ruling it out but it is a different kettle of fish. Fingers crossed but not holding my breath either.

 

Will hold my hands up and admit i bought the Usyk V Chisora fight.But enough is enough and i will not buying any of the upcoming fights featuring Joshua,Fury,White and Tyson

 

Good man. The only way the promoters will get the message is if PPV numbers drop. There is no reason at all why ordinary people should fund the early retirement of guys like Chisora who are not even world level fighters. Whenever there is a PPV on, don't buy it and just drop the money into a savings account for your children if you have any. Then watch the fight anyway.

 

I didn’t know the football one had been scrapped. Thank god!

 

Why dont you try and get to the food bank twice a week, and just let your kids wear their trainers on a sunday.
