Wasn`t Barkley the favourite in that fight in America, he had already been in with Duran and beaten Tommy Hearns both of who had far better reps than Benn had in America at that time.
Benn fought G-man who knocked out Jackson twice, who Eubank admitted he did not want to fight in a studio just after Jackson knocked out Graham another fighter Eubank dodged, but so did Benn.
You`re right I remember him turning up at the time from nowhere and at the end of a twelevised fight he goaded Mendy Benn`s manager saying 'your boy is scared' but I don`t know about years because he hadn`t been a leading contender that long and his fights hadn`t been televised, Benn was a big name by this point having blasted out Barkley and tore up his British boxing license on TV saying he would never fight in Britain again because he was insulted by Eubank`s attack on him.
Benn didn't give G Man any time to set himself, Eubanks always liked to fight at a leisurely pace and take time off in rounds.Credit to Benn for taking on some of the better Yanks .Eubanks avoided them.
Eubank was calling Benn out in Boxing News in Dec '88. Benn was on The Last Resort with Jonathan Ross in December 1987! His rise to superstar status in British sport was faster than any non-Olympian ever.
His uncles, cousins (other than Mica Paris and Diane Modahl), nieces, nephews and brothers don't talk to him apparently, so highly unlikely.
I think Eubank would have to overcome early adversity, maybe getting dropped once or twice, but I think McClellan gasses and Eubank stops him round about the 11th maybe it goes the distance, Bowe avoided Lewis, but there are still people who pick him to beat Lewis
He was nowhere near as famous as Benn by `89, Benn`s fight with Watson got far bigger ratings than any fight Eubank had up to that point, the Benn fight made him, he knew it which is why he called him out.
Eubank was strong as hell, and had a granite chin. He fought hard hitting Carl Thompson at cruiserweight and gave a great account of himself. I would go with Eubank on points, plus Eubank always won decisions, some he didn't deserve.
