It agonizes me to see a once in a generation talent like Gamboa become a punching bag for the young up and comers. He was a force of nature, El Ciclon de Guantanamo. He was the FW Mike Tyson with a less reliable chin.
Us Gamboa fans will never forgive his management and Arum for not making the fights that would have catapulted him into the A side. Politics destroyed his career.

Things changed rapidly after the Miami doping issue hit. Don't think that was a coincidence.

His career has gone downhill since he was wrecked by Crawford. From undefeated to down 4 times in 9 rounds. He has never fully recovered since he lost his "invincibility". It happens a lot

He kept his chin up in the air too much

He was never a 135 pounder and he had an extensive amateur career. He should be 7-5 at 135 and he's only stopped 2 of his 12 opponents at that weight and one of them had only fought once in like three years and was shot. He was phenomenal talent at his natural weight albeit always chinny.

I hope he is getting 6 figure paydays, at least.

I blame 50 cent, who ruined his career into obscurity.

He was just too small for Crawford. I thought he still looked talented in that fight. Gamboa is tiny.

Nope, nope, nope! This is a common problem with Caribbean fighters like Richard Abril, Rigondeaux, Gamboa, Joan Guzman, etc., they have all the talent in the world and they get great offers when their original contracts expire and they jump right back into an even worse one. Gamboa had far more contract experience in boxing to know not to sign to a goddamn rapper. He was caught up in the fantasy of being promised a Mayweather bout instead of staying in his place and allowing a real manager to actually read the contract to him.

I don't fully blame 50, he was ****ed by floyd when floyd pulled out of their partnership and left him hanging in a business where he had no alliances.

50 was more than happy to play in a business he was drowning.
I blame 50, Gamboa´s management and Gamboa himself as well.

I always liked Gamboa but he made some bad choices regarding mgmt and weightclass and ended up sitting out his prime.

The problem is, he's a FW. Even at SFW he never looked good IMO let alone LW. And everyone does not have the ability to skirt weight classes, he's short and stocky. He wasn't built for anything other than being a dominating force at FW.
