I've broken a lot bones in my hands and wrists a few times and I think they're more susceptible to damage now.
I sprained both wrists a couple of months back and am ready to get back in the gym now, I usually just use 2 pairs of wraps if I'm going to be hitting hard but was thinking maybe an inner glove and then wrapping around that may be more effective.

Anyone have this problem and found any solutions?

This is a difficult question to answer.

Does your wrist hurt because of it being bent on impact or are you hitting correctly yet your wrist hurts after? If the later, do you use some sort of knuckle padding or just wraps?

Technique may suffer now and then but generally it's good.
I shIould have made it clear I've never sprained or broken my hands in the gym/ring.

It's more niggling/chronic pain at the base of my metacarpals and carpals and wrist when I hit the pads or bag hard, never during sparring.

If you don't use knuckle pads you should try those.

Sometimes pain is caused by hitting with the middle joints rather than the knuckles. This movement translates to pain in your wrist. For a visual example, grab a small pipe and make a fist. You will notice that your middle joints are now the most prominent, not your knuckles.

You can fix this with knuckle pads as they move the striking surface further forward - hopefully past or at least in line with the middle joints.

Your gloves will be very tight to begin with as they need to stretch out, so alter your hand wrap thickness appropriately.

I have used them in the past, the breaks have been "boxers fractures" for the most part, at the base of my metacarpals, and that's where the pain is as well as my wrists.

I'm not new to boxing so when I say the technique might not be perfect I mean very slightly bad alignment of my wrist, which I don't think would aggrivate a less smashed up hand.
It may just be that I can't hit the pads or bag full power anymore.

    Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

At some point you may just have to accept you're getting old! Best of luck though.

I didn't find that fractures are strictly correlating with age.
Some boxers did not had broken any bone ( I mean hands ) and they are 40+. Some does have hands injuries and they are 21.
To suggest bad technique from these examples might not be fair cos guys from both examples were pros.
There of course are plenty of things where age matters a lot. Fractures doesn't look such tied to athlete's age.

I have had my issues and things that helped:
Playing around with handwraps. I myself canĀ“t really roll the handwrap between the pinky and the ring finger(both hands actually). Whatever bone that is, it stops it from moving and that causes some serious issues for me.

Technique. I try my best to land with the first 3 knuckles. And I no longer slap with the open palm. Always turn my knuckles into the shot.

And I do knuckle pushups. Not a lot, but they work the knuckles and my wrists feel more comfortable.

I have always done this to build back into full press ups after I've broken my wrists.

I have time to keep strengthening/rehabbing my wrists since we're locked down again here.

When I get back into I'm going to try and inner glove with wraps over the top, we'll see how that works.

I also recommend just working on technique on the bag. Try to throw some slow and weak punches. Get a feeling for your body.
    Like slow shadow boxing.
Great way to find flaws in your technique.

I'm definitely not going to jump back into hitting with full power when I get back in the gym, it'll be slow and steady

I'll post here how I find the inner gloves/wraps compared to just wraps.

I started slow on the bag, like really slow and I found I was hitting it wrong.

I went to a gym where the trainer was obsessed with combos. We did like 8 punch combos on the bag with emphasis on speed and power.
Hell of a way to end up with **** technique and injuries.
