Just watched the DAZN show. If you listen to Eddie Hearn, Devin Haney is the future of world boxing. Obviously he's his promoter but Haney couldn't even hurt a 38 year old, chinny, Gamboa. Surely he hasn't got enough to beat Lopez, Davis or Garcia. Its a shame that Campbell didn't get to fight him, I think he'd have a real chance.

He’s quite marketable and the US needs a new star. That’s probably why Hearn is so keen.

He looks the part, clean cut image, speaks relatively well and is a good fighter. I’m guessing the aim is to try and replicate the marketing success they had with Joshua here.

I’ve never quite understood the hype around Haney and watching the highlights this morning reinforced my thoughts that he is a good fighter, but he’s never going to be elite or special.

This is the second fight in a row when he’s been less than impressive. Tank Davis, Lopez or Loma are out of the question.

Gamboa is probably 40 + in reality and he has taken some big beatings, but he didn’t seem to be bothered by any of the clean punches from Devin.

DAZN/Hearn must be worried - he’s going to draw zero subscribers.

Haney is very good and there are some big fights put there in and around the division. I imagine he will avoid most of them for another 12-18 months atleast

Pernell Whitaker and Floyd weren't punchers either and they did OK I seem to remember, obviously not putting Haney in their league or even suggesting he could be but power isn't everything if you have elite boxing skills, natural athleticism and dedication which Haney seemingly has then you can go all the way.
If you can hit your opponent at will with enough power to keep them honest and make them miss which Haney can then you don't need to have Julian Jackson type power.

It’s almost as if his promoter is exaggerating and using hyperbole to hype one of his fighters...

When Haney signed Eddie proper shot his load ! Even though Haney ain’t done anything yet in the pro game he is obviously a talent that everyone is taking about and wanted to sign, if was Eddie’s first and probably only correct me if I’m wrong one star he signed from America to Dazn all the rest were fighters no one else really wanted !!

so course Eddie gonna be putting his

I really rate Haney, the lad is absolute class. He’s very accurate with his shots and they’re the ones that hurt opponents. Gamboa might be knocking on but he’s only been beaten by the very best and Haney barely dropped a round.

There’s some talent in that division, plus there’s fighters who could even step down to that division such as Mikey Garcia and Broner should they decide to shift the timber.

Only reason hes at the weight is cos hes young. When he hits puberty he’ll have to move up and he will be less effective

Not saying it's an fantastic win by any stretch, but I actually think the win over Gamboa isn't too shabby and not understanding a lot of the criticism.... also baring in mind Haney is only 21 years old.

Everyone is currently creaming over Tank (who is a special talent) but only last year Gamboa took him into the 12th.

Where do people rate Luke Campbell amongst the current crop?

Personally, I think he is yet another example of a British fighter overstaying his welcome at one weight, and it will go against him with Ryan Garcia (who I don’t think is all that anyway). I think he struggles to get in top 10.

Gamboa was injured for a lot of that fight too. We'll find out what Davis is made of when he goes in with someone at the top of their game and right for the weight. I have a feeling that we might not ever actually see that.
