Maybe in the lighter weights but not in Mike Tyson's case.

He talked about this years ago and is in his autobiography so not anything news. Just been regurgitated and jumped on by the general press because of the Jones build up and interviews. He said it wasn’t PED related and given the shape he turned up in at the back end I’d be inclined to believe him

 

Perhaps you could make a case for PEDs when he was a beast but was washed up when he said he was doing this. Anyone who believes cocaine is performance enhancement for an athletic sport is an idiot btw

 

However as pointed out it does show how easy it was for top pro to get around the drugs tests being deployed at the time so not a stretch to think a large number of not a majority were at in varying degrees. Not all roided up to the eyeballs but some were. Holyfield seems an obvious candidate and even one of my all time favourites RJJ dabbled even though it pains me to admit it

 

220lbs at 5'10 with abs showing. Those are 1970s Mr Olympia statistics and we all know how roided up they were.

 

That was the PED Era so it is easy to believe he was roiding. Supports his fits of rage back then. I also have no doubt he was drugged up on coke and whatever else he desired.

 

I’m a bit of a Tyson fan boy because of my age and thought he really was unbeatable/ baddest man on the planet at the time as lacked the knowledge and didn’t realise most people he was destroying weren’t the best. I still usually rush to defend him though whilst now acknowledging he wasn’t as great as I though then. Can’t say if he was roided l or not but have to be consistent I suppose with what I said earlier. Still think he was natural phenomena in many respects. Look at him as a young teenager. Was a monster then and doubt he was on the drugs then. He obviously filled out even further from then but pretty much everyone does from 15 to 21

 

Don’t think steroids would have been responsible for his 20 inch neck but will admit I’m not an expert on these things

Wish people would stop thinking that cocaine was or is ever going to be a benefit though! Makes him angry lol? So what. Firstly anger doesn’t really help boxers, secondly the physical effects would be negative. And if there was drug related rage then roid rage would be more physically beneficial than cocaine rage
