Shorter men have a better center of gravity.
You kinda said it yourself, styles make fights. It all depends on the individual. If I get in close vs a taller opponent, I feel a lot more comfortable than they do, for the most part.

Also a taller man would have to lean downwards a bit to face their opponent. That is a bad thing.

Byrd's slickness was avoiding contact, slipping punches. He was excellent (I find him underrated) at that. Ward's way to avoid punches is much more about grabbing, holding, some slipping, sure, and just spoiling tactics.

This is how Byrd handled bigger opponents:

Slipping, slipping and more slipping. Slick as they come. Ward was not slick like that, he was a spoiler.

Avoiding contact completely works far better vs bigger opponents than spoiling tactics. Ward hugging Joshua won't work so well for him.

Yep, I do. You have absolute buffoons on here who thought Lomachenko ever stood a chance against 130-135 lb. Floyd, who thought Ward was ducking GGG and not the other way around, who thought that May-Pac was a robbery, and who accused Floyd of ducking GGG. But I actually have an argument. Shocking, right?

Byrd mostly just stood in place. Ward was also pretty good at slipping shots, but he was a much better mover.

Loma lands more shots and creates more punching opportunities than Ward did, Ward was often just a spoiler and couldn`t fight that great on the inside.

He wasn`t countering enough while slipping.

AJ would destroy the tiny Ward, too much reach, he`d just keep him at the end of his jab, Ward wasn`t good enough on the inside to beat AJ in the pocket, he`d be stopped by the first good right hand that catches him.

I think it's hard to tell whether Byrd really was better than Ward given that Ward had an overall much more successful career but at the same time Byrd fought with many more disadvantages. I still think Ward's style is more suited against HWs since you have to move along with ducking and slipping against a HW, not just duck and slip in one place.

no,, the problem with Ruiz was that Ruiz threw quick punches. I want to see how Ruiz does with other guys like Wilder.. It might just be a style thing.

Tyson himself was extremely muscle bound. 5'10 and 220lbs.

We've seen in the second Ruiz fight how Joshua will fight smaller fighters from now on. It's not entertaining but it is effective.

I reckon Joshua will come in at 250lbs against Fury but lighter against smaller opponents.
