Yesterday Crowcroft and some others were saying stuff about what a great year 1982 was, I conjured up a list : Bantamweight: Gomez vs. Pintor Chacon vs. Limon IV Lightweight Mancini vs. Frias Welterweight Pryor vs. Arguello I Hearns vs. Benitez Cruiserweight Spinks vs. Burnett Heavyweight Holmes vs. Cooney Snipes vs. Berbick I couldn't think of anything in the way of featherweights or middleweights, I'm sure I probably missed at least ten fights on this list, what were they?
In summary so far: Gomez vs. Pintor Sanchez vs. Nelson Chacon vs. Limon IV Mancini vs. Frias Mancini vs. Kim Pryor vs. Arguello I Hearns vs. Benitez Fletcher vs. Jackson Czyz v Sims Spinks vs. Burnett Holmes vs. Cooney Snipes vs. Berbick There must be a few more than these as well - @The Morlocks? This is 100% your era. Any more gems?
I remember watching that fight live on The CBS Sports Spectacular with my dad. A really tough fight, but it was unfortunate what happened. I know that Ray never got over it, it was very tragic.
The Good Son - both the book and documentary film - covers his feelings about it and how much it affected his life. Mancini was (and is) a good guy.
Saw this in the other thread - I thought you'd have a good answer! Superb post covering the whole year!
That may well be. However, in the real world, there are, regrettably, 17 weight divisions, with the WBC proposing an 18th. Besides, you posted ... So you've already acknowledged a division outside of the original eight divisions when you cited Cruiserweight.
