The right thing to do in my opinion , the guys he is fighting and fought he shouldn’t be in n the same ring as them Tony Oko Ortiz etc. He is not even British level and has got these fights off the back of his personality , he could well get seriously hurt if he fights anymore of these calibre of opponent .
No doubt about it, Price physically and emotionally destroyed Dave Allen and pretty much retired him. Allen went into that fight absolutely certain (like a lot of us) that he would totally spark out Price and move on to (undeservedly) headline a PPV. He was speaking pre-fight about how he had mapped out a route to a Joshua fight and believed he was about three wins away from a fight with him. His plan was to knock out Price, somehow beat Povetkin (lol) and then box Joshua on PPV. This content is protected Price totally schooled and punished Dave Allen, administering the most severe beating of Allen's career. Not only did Allen lose but Allen also quit and he never recovered from that mentally. Allen's whole persona was built on the idea that "an opponent would need a baseball bat to knock him out", that he would never quit and that he could take any sort of punishment in the ring. The manner of that Price defeat ended his career, his entire persona as a boxer and his outlandish hopes of boxing for a world title. That night must have been utterly devastating for Allen, being rushed to hospital in an ambulance with his dreams in tatters. It was the most brutal of reality checks.
I don’t dislike him as much as many do but it’s wrong the way he can own a few houses when boxers with far more talent and work ethic can’t get a shot. I remember Crolla, for example, a good domestic level fighter who had been in meaningful fights still wanted to ‘just own his own house’ at the time of the Perez fights! That’s just one example of hundreds probably. I know it’s a business and selling tickets but come on Allen took the ****, a proper joke who was given chance after chance. Only to say afterwards that he didn’t try and train. I’ll always like him for ending the myth of the terrible Lucas Browne with that body shot! What a shot!
Your sentiment is not wrong, but as you say that's life in a commercial environment. It's all about supply and demand. I just scrolled past an article today that said Megan Hanson Barton (some woman off of Love Island, who's had a lot of cosmetic procedures) earns £800k per month from OnlyFans... That's the kind of world we live in! For some reason, I have never bought into that body shot against Lucas Browne. There was something very odd about it. I've seen a thousand of such body shots that barely made a heavyweight flinch. Lucas Browne up on his knee as soon as the referee counted him out and fine about 10 seconds letter.
I would rather get clubbed round the head for 12 rounds than be on Only Fans. If you have absolutely no shame or dignity, then crack on. The money is insane. A guy I know makes about £35k a month from filming himself having a Thomas the Tank every few days. Insane.
it is simply about marketability. I know lots of fighters and ex boxers who did well, challenged for titles (world titles as well) and now work standard jobs either whilst training or after retiring to pay their mortgage.
Good place to invest is Doncaster. The amount of appearances he’s had as support with eddy he will have enough for 10-15 houses easily. £3k-£5k per month for doing nothing.
I saw a clip just now of him saying Usyk basically had him out on his feet in sparring so he retired. Ridiculous really. Why on Earth he was even sparring him is beyond me
He's had two decent paydays (Price, Browne which were the only two shows he ever headlined) and whatever he got paid for the Yoka fight (which was in France, so anybody's guess really). Before that he was getting paid peanuts for most of his fights. 'Retired' in this case means retired from boxing, not retired and has no financial need to work again, that's not even remotely the case. He will be back in the new year as soon as the British belt is vacated by the Dubois vs Joyce winner, with a new series of sob story's. The Dave Allen show will (unfortunately) continue...
He's exposed himself on the IFL interview that he's pretty much never trained throughout his whole career and that he's mentally and physically shot I really think this is it, shame to any promoter that would even consider letting him fight again
Good luck to him. Suspect he stays around the game in some form but hope he's invested enough to be safe regardless.
