Are you trying to kill the G-Man, draining him like that?

    Thomas T
Thomas Tate neither dropped Jackson nor drew with him. Jackson dropped Tate, and won a wide UD.

McClellan didn't have lot of fights and his last fight happened when he was just 27 years old.

A puncher for sure, but one with an inflated type of record. IMO GGG is the better boxer by far and hits harder. Who's more durable, just look at when Benn did to him.

Gerald hit harder, GGG would beat him by stoppage.

Perhaps my memory is off on that one. I do remember it being very difficult fight if nothing else.

I rewatched that fight just now. Jackson did win it. Good to know my memory isn't too far off though. Tate administered some pretty serious punishment to Julian in that one. Bobby Cyz called it the fight of the nite.
Tate had peppered him and had Jackson hurt pretty badly maybe 4 times including right up to the final bell. I dont think Tate necessarily won but he could have.
Being a DonKing house fighter had its benefits. If that was scored a wide decision certainly.
Anyway my overall point was confirmed. Julian was shopworn and not quite the devastating force at 160 he had been at 54. Don King was no dummy. He cashed him out.

I agree with the sentiment that the Tate fight showed Julian was starting to slip. But, Tate was no scrub. He was a respectable pro, just shy of being championship material. Tate was 24-1 when he fought Jackson. He went 12 tough rounds with Jackson, lost razor thin decisions to Sven Ottke (twice), and went neck in neck with the much bigger Michael Moorer in the amateurs. The only man to ever destroy Tate was Jones. That was one of Jones' must impressive performances in my opinion.

I have attached his amateur bout with Moorer. It is a good scrap, with excellent skills demonstrated by both men.
