I think Barkley stomps a hole in Canelos chest~

I don't see it. I'm a bigtime Barkley fan and no doubt he would come to fight but Canelo is pretty damn solid defensively and would counter him to death. I kind of see it being similar to what Toney did to him.

You seem to not have much respect for Canelo as a fighter which I get it, there are plenty of fighters that I simply don't like either but remember, Canelo fought 24 rounds with GGG who is a massive puncher. I still don't think Canelo won either of those fights but acknowledge that he is a great fighter and is a level or two above Barkley.

Love Barkley and his style and his quotes! Yes, the fearless man by KO AFTER he has been bloodied and beaten up some.

 

For what its worth, I thought the Duran-Barkley fight was close.

 

Canelo is simply too good an all-round fighter to lose here. He can fight off the front or backfoot and while he's not an ATG puncher, he is maybe knocking on that door. Barkley's best hope is to take it to Canelo, eat what he has to eat, and hope that ginger gasses down the stretch. That's a thin hope because Canelo's stamina seems to have improved the less weight he cuts.

 

Barkley greatest win was Hearns, but what else? It just looks like a good style match for Hearns and Tommy being a little older and posing when he is throwing combination and getting hit. But Barkley lost to Kalambay, Nunn, Benn and even Sims. He lost to Duran. I don't see the huge evidence he would walk though Canelo. It is good that Barkley beat Hearns, it put him on the map but that does not really prove more than he beat Tommy. He needed more to prove he can beat other styles.

 

He's not an ATG puncher at all. Canelo's stamina is better because he's super calm in the ring. He still fights in spurts though, which leaves him a bit vulnerable to guys who work the whole round.

 

I see no way Barkley wins.

If you want to find a tailor made opponent for Canelo, Barkley is as close as anyone. He makes Canelo look better than ever.

 

Agree with both Bokaj and George. Barkley won't make it an easy night's work, he was tough and willing. However, stylistically, Canelo is going to pick him apart.

 

Largely agree with this. I think Canelo has better stamina because he's not so dried out, but you make a good point that guys that can stay calm under fire tend to have better stamina. He's not an ATG puncher but he is heavy handed. You can see his shots have an effect.

 

Barkley outworks him. I am definitely picking Iran in this one. Canelo had stamina issues and would be put the defensive for most of the fight
