What a great accomplishment for Pacquiao. Will we ever see a Five division champion in the next 50 years? Will someone ever dream of winning 8?
With the sheer amount of belts offered by the 4 governing bodies in EACH division it is entirely possible for a number of boxers to become 4 or 5 or even 8 division champions. It would not surprise me in the slightest to see many 4 division champions soon.
Donaire was a 4 division champ and had an interim belt in a fifth. Donnie Nietes, Kazuto Ioka, Kosei Tanaka all are on 4 weights. Hiroto Kyoguchi could do it. It's not impossible for someone to get belts in 5 weight classes, particularly between strawweight and bantamweight.
Watch that pop carry up. He's very skinny and I think he can be competitive up to 135, maybe just not ultra dominant.
1) It isn't. 2) Yeah, THAT'S what's wrong with boxing. Not corruption, or A-side/B-side, or twenty-bajillion belts for each weight class, or fighters trying to preserve an undefeated '0'. Semantic arguments over how many divisions Pacquiao won. Truly, you have solved the grand mystery.
Anyway, rabid weirdos who hate Pacquiao because Mexico aside, Getting to five is hard, even in the multi-belt era. Eventually, you just hit a plateau where the other guy is simply too big no matter what you do. We just saw how hard it is when Leo Santa Cruz was fiercely competitive with Tank Davis until he wasn't. Alexis Arguello, one of the best ever, couldn't even get to 4 in an era with fewer belts. This shows just how good Pacquiao, Mayweather, and de la Hoya were, no matter how many weirdos try and criticize them or say 'they really lost this-and-that fight' and 'mitigating circumstances means this-or-that accomplishment doesn't count lol they suck' or otherwise out themselves as complete and utter tools.
