Earnie Shaver's skillset compared to Deontay Wilder's skillset?

I don't think Wilder hits quite as hard as Earnie, but it's pretty close imo.

Wilder...he probably has the better chin, but I really can't give a consummate answer to this. Shavers did last 10+ rounds with a completely peaked Holmes (not to mention some other very good fighters). Wilder never did anything like that, never had that kind of competition (and yeah, I'm including Fury in this).

Shavers might not have had the chin, but he still had a lot of heart. I'm not sure, even at this late-for-a-boxer date, Wilder proved himself in that arena yet.

A 'prime' Earnie Shavers lost a 10-round decision to Bob Stallings.

Shavers didn't have better boxing skills than Wilder.

Wilder hasn't proved his heart? He broke his hand in his WBC title-winning effort. He broke his hand AND tore his bicep in his title defense against Arreola. NAME ANY OTHER champ who broke his hand AND tore his bicep and still managed to stop his opponent in a title fight? (Fighters tend to quit the moment they notice a torn bicep.) And he refused to quit against Fury when the ceiling was caving in on him, and he had to undergo surgery after that fight, too. Even guys who mocked Wilder admitted he showed his heart in refusing to quit that night.

I think you're confusing him with the guy Hearn promotes who spit out his mouthpiece against a late sub and quit when things got tough. No broken bones. No injuries. No torn arm muscles. Just kept getting dropped, so he called it a night. Figured he'd try again some other time.

It’s more wilder being physically superior not so much by skill

Not the best logic. Greats in history have lost in their prime and weren't considered this way.

    It wasn't a one-off freak loss.

Shavers lost to Bob Stallings, Walter Santemore, Ron Stander, Quick Tillis.

EVERYONE beat ALL those guys. They were the guys you fought when you wanted a win. Shavers lost to all of them.

Wilder has lost once, to Tyson Fury, the pound-for-pound #1 World Heavyweight champ - who Wilder also had the skills to drop twice in two different rounds. It wasn't a "close your eyes and swing for the hills" deal.

It's clearly Wilder. He's won top amateur and pro titles with his boxing skills. Shavers never did.

Thats because wilder fought no other decent heavyweights, theres carlos takkam, joseph parker, anthony joshua, dillian whyte, alexander povetkin, kubrat pulev, andy ruiz, oscar rivas and a few more. Id beat my house at least half of those opponents would beat deontay wilder. Wilder had a ****ton of trouble with luis ortiz and barely won. He needs to show me more before i consider him a top 10. I think wilders physical dimensions athleticism are much better than shavers but in raw skill shavers is a decent amount better

And Shavers had a **** ton of trouble with Bob Stallings, Ron Stander, Walter Santemore and Quick Tillis ... and didn't win against ANY of them.

    Wilder has the better skills.

Depends on what you define skills as. Wilder has a bit more nuance to his game (foot angles, guard bypass, usage of his height/reach etc) whereas Shavers has much better form on most shots and a much better jab. He also has beaten better fighters. Wilder is a much better fighter though; quicker, tougher, better stamina and more accurate too.

How tall do you need to be to beat Ron Stander?

serviceable jab! I love it! I think Shavers would kill him in 30 seconds. Shavers had good skills, I think he's very underated. Wilder has some too, not as much though.

Here is how to look at it.

Take away their power, and what have you got left?

Well, Wilder was a National Golden Gloves Champion. U.S. National Amateur Champion. U.S. Olympic Trials winner. Olympic Bronze Medal winner and a WBC Heavyweight Champion ... and he didn't stop anyone to win those.

So, quite a lot, actually. That's my point.
