I think that the Big Ugly Bear, Charles Sonny Liston wins this one by unanimous decision. This prime Liston would have too much boxing skills to lose to a mechanical Vitali Klitchko. Sure Liston lost to a fast moving Muhammad Ali in 1964, but Sonny of 1958-1962 was a good boxer who could also go the distance as evidenced in his Sept 7 1960 bout against Eddie Machen, won by Sonny. Vitali could not intimidate the former debt collector hired by the underworld. I see Klitchko trying to instill his power early, but again Liston would not cower to him, Liston has fought on with a broken jaw, and a broken nose, thanks to Cleveland Big Cat Williams in 1959, before Sonny kayoed him in round 3. I truly believe that height or weight would not frighten a prime Sonny Liston, as he probably fought tougher guys in the correction facility yards, he even put a law enforcement officer upside down in a trash can in an alley in 1957, for which he was returned to prison for a short stay.
No worries, Chuvalo, Rocky, Bowe, Foreman, Tua, Ibeabuchi, Ali, Holyfield, Tyson, Frazier, Mercer are just thoughtless of the top of my head choices who I have no doubts about, I bet me saying Frazier makes you mad cause he’s short and you like your men big and European.
What percent of his amateur and pro fights were lost on cuts.? Here's your chance to clarify. I come out to far less than 1%. I will stick to .38%, meaning any prediction of a cut loss, I'd bet my own money against it.
" VK would have been the toughest man Sonny ever fought. No one had a better chin than Vitali." This content is protected This content is protected
As they wear headguards to protect against cuts in the amateurs, adding the amateur fights to his tally to show how rarely he cut is like me saying I don't get wet when I go out in the rain. Its not because I have some magical superpower that helps me evade raindrops. It's because I wear a bloody big raincoat. Course he didn't get cut in the amateurs. No-one does. Even our Enery Cooper would have struggled to get cut in the amateurs.
No one get cut in the Amateurs? Very wrong. How about Kickboxing? Vitali said he was never cut until Lewis in kickboxing matches too, both pro and amateur. My point, which is he was only cut one in 200+ combat matches.
My point is that one of the main reasons that amateurs wear headguards, much the same as pros when sparring, is that they prevent the glove making direct contact with the vulnerable areas around the brow which are prone to being cut. You say that such a statement is not just wrong but 'very wrong' but instead of backing that assertion with some stats on the numbers of amateurs cut - and let's be honest; you like a stat - you ask me 'how about kickboxing?'. Never mind kickboxing. If I am 'very wrong' and lots of amateurs get cuts - in amateur boxing - despite the headgear, show me. Otherwise, I'll carry on thinking that it's a fairly shallow boast that he didn't get cut in 200+ amateur bouts when he wore protective gear whose primary purpose is to prevent him from getting cut for all of those 200+ bouts.
Headguards according to the fighters increase the impact to the blows and do not make anyone immune from cuts. I hated them, they limit vision. Mitigate cuts, okay, but my point, which I am adding to is in all his pro boxing and kickboxing matches he was only cut bad once, and it never happened in the amateur matches where cuts are possible, but less likely. Agreed? The above facts to me suggest he's not cut prone. Did you see the video link I posted by the way? My other point is Liston was cut and swelled up more often.
