“I can't bash Bob Arum and Top Rank, I cannot do that. They gave me the opportunity to accomplish everything in my career. I know deep down in my heart that Bob really is a good dude and he really did try everything possible in his will to get these fights I was asking for. I don't know what made him come out and say all of the negative stuff he said about me. "I have a lot of things going through my head right now. I don't really like to talk about it because I'm not the kind of person to put my business in the streets. If I ever had a problem with Bob Arum and Top Rank, I always went to them,” said Crawford. "[Arum] doesn't promote me like [he] promotes everybody else. Ain't nobody in [Top Rank’s] stable doing numbers like I'm doing. Nobody. Not even your primadonnas that you're putting so much promotion and everything into. Motherf------ aint doing nothing compared to me. "I always felt like I was set up from the jump so they didn't have to pay me the money that I deserved. He's talking about money — I used to take pay cuts because I didn't care about the money. I knew where I was going ... Now he's going to pay me more for the minimum every single time that I fight because I deserve it ... You're going to pay me what I'm worth. “Top Rank is the company I am with right now, but who knows what the future may hold. We may have a disagreement right now, we're going through some trials and tribulations, but we're gonna get it figured out.”
Crawford seems scared and confused. Said he can't poop on Bob, but then said he felt like he was "set up" in the past to make short money.
He would've been a lot more scathing if that was any other promoter he was signed to but he knows that OG Bob won't think twice about stepping to him and taking it to street rules if he's too disrespectful.
Hes obviously trying to lay the groundwork to accept more money if top rank is willing to dish it out. He doesn't want to burn bridges in case too rank can offer him more than anyone else, but he's also making sure to keep other avenues open. To me this means it's more about money than the big fights, which is understandable in this business. Not saying it doesn't suck for fans.
Bob, even now, is one of those dudes that if he's charging at you, you have to unload 2 full magazines before he's finally stopped. And when you go to check to see if he's dead, he grabs you by the throat and chokes the **** out of you before your buddy puts one in his head. And then they can't find his body.
Crawford brought this on himself. I said several years ago that if Crawford didn’t start putting more effort into his media obligations that Arum would turn on him.
What I took from that whole thing was that he likes how things are, where he gets a nice payday from opponents who are just good enough to be credible. The only thing he wants is a larger chunk, besides hoping to win the Pacquiao lottery.
That was a respectable response, Crawford took the high road. I think PBC would pay him stupid money to fight their stable. TR has nothing left for him and so that’s why they’re laying the groundwork fOr “we don’t want him anyways”. it’s the same thing with Pac. Talking about Pac can’t draw anymore when he’s arguably still the biggest draw in the sport. Nobody doing PPV numbers like he is and Canelo is not on PPV, he’s on subscription. Imagine Crawford beats Porter/Thurman, then a unification between him and spence. Huge fight. Then Pac fighting the winner of that will be a mega-fight.
Crawford is getting scared that he might get jobbed on the cards, in his next fight. Judging from the Pacquiao Bradley debacle I would take the easiest tune ups and go sign a prestigious contract with Mr Al Haymon. The bomb squad will look after him. Lol
