There is no denying that he is improving and similar to Eubank Jnr he has a lot of box appeal, but unlike Eubank Jnr he comes across extremly inarticulate and much like Dillian Whytes number 1 fan @Aydamn a bit of a " Wanksta ".

Josh Kelly is also living rent free inside Conor's head and if he gets past, David Avanesyan and the fight is made, he will dismantle Conor in a similar fashion to how Watson beat his father.

Whatever happened to @Aydamn ?

My take on last's night fights:

Babic is so crude it's unreal, but then again what can we expect from a doorman turned gym fighter who was helping boxers out with bits of sparring and suddenly finds himself fighting on Sky under the tagline 'The Savage' purely because he is mates with Dillian, now his manager. He has no jab, no defensive capabilities, no visible talent, just swings away and hopes to land more than he misses. Okay for white collar fights, or a small hall show but it's more than a little perplexing as to why there is this circus around him, and why after the 'fight camp' in Aug he has become a Matchrooms pet project?

The idea of him fighting Hrgovic is ridiculous. I'm no Hrgovic fan but he's world class, it would be over in 2-3 rounds and would just be a total mismatch.

I don't read anything into him stopping Little inside 2 rounds, Tom has taken so much punishment his punch resistance is gone and he did not want to be in there, 2 minutes in he was looking for a way out.

I do like the look of Wardley a lot though. He's a lean, athletic heavyweight, with very good ability for some of his limited experience level. I think he's a clever boxer and articulate and intelligent outside of the right as well, will do well, he's talented.

Connor has improved a lot, can't deny that, and credit where it's due. Formella, as tough as he is and as much credit as that deserves was in full on journeyman mode. He came to survive, and go the distance but had no ambitions beyond that, he was content to do enough to not get stopped and stay in there so he can get another paycheck. Maybe I am being a bit over critical but that was my feeling watching the fight.

As for Connor's interview though

I thought he grew up in Australia? Didn't he only move here a few years ago? Cringe worthy stuff.

 

I already have and will again now give Benn credit for the W, he won well, it looks like he had improved quite a bit to be perfectly honest.

But.. and there is a but.. I was sceptical as to why they brought Formella over, on paper it looked a tough ask, a step up, I was wondering why Benn was happy to take this on after a long lay off and I got my answer rather quickly.

Formellas lack of punch power was blatant, it genuinely shocked me, as @kojak said on another thread. It was a perfect piece of matchmaking.


Also I'll ask you this.. are you telling me a fighter like Chris Kongo wouldn't have done the same to Formalla?


Bottom Line, it was a good win but there is no need for anybody to get carried away with that.

 

Pleased for Benn, definitely improved. Cold today, I had to de-ice the car, bet he was appreciative of the heated seats in his Range Rover this morning.

 

I enjoyed Benn's post fight interview, he was ramped up which is to be expected after just going 12 rounds in your biggest fight to date and spoke from the heart.

You see too many sportsman giving the same old boring cliche answers during interviews, refreshing to hear someone just tell it how it is.

 

Playing his dad in Rise of the Footsoldier 18, has obviously gone to Conor's head.

It reminds me of when Lewis Hamilton embraced his inner @TERRYTIBBS and described how he grew up and aspired to get out of the slums of Stevenage.

 

I think that's genuinely how Conor Benn is. That's just the way he talks. He grew up with Nigel Benn as his father and I guess he's absorbed a lot of his father's characteristics.

 

He talks like that because he wants to talk like that. It isn't natural, it's a choice. Think about all the people who have a foreign parent or foreign parents but who grew up in England. People who are born in London tend to have London accents regardless of where their parents are from. It would be very odd if they didn't.

His own Dad was born in London to Bajan parents yet Nigel speaks with a strong London accent. That's normal.

Conor seems lost to me. Needs to find himself and be his own man as others have said.

Grew up in Spain and Australia didn't he?. Privately educated as well I believe. Not sure either but it definitely isn't a full blown East London accent.

 

Well, it's the way he talks. We don't need to over-analyze his accent, it's what it is.
I don't see any reason to consider him a fake for the way he talks, like what is being implied.
From what I understand he was born in London in 1996, and moved to Spain in 2002 and then to Australia in 2012. He came back to UK in 2016.

He probably uses some good old fashioned expressions he picked up off his father too, and good for him.
Meanwhile half his own generation of Londoners are talking like complete Ali G style knobs based on some silly slang watered down from American and Jamaican recording artists. Which, to be fair, probably comes natural to them too/
