Terrible matchups for Bernard Hopkins?

I forgot about the underrated Fullmer. People talk smack on him but his record doesnt lie. Talk about a guy who destroys your rythem!

 

John do you see Hopkins wearing Hearns down or out boxing him?

 

Hopkins defense was outstanding as he showed after he moved up and faced better opponents. I don't see the getting battered part. I wouldn't rule out a Hagler beating him. I dont see Bernard being Target practice for anyone.

 

I see Bennie Briscoe running Hopkins out of the ring. But before that, Hopkins will fake an injury. ****ing *****!!!!!

Prime Nunn who moved would have outclassed Bernard.
Too fast and too slick.
Monzon too strong maybe.
Fullmer would have been interesting.
Hagler too much to.

 

He barely edged an old Hopkins ..

 

Hopkins was not a guy I like at all but he was a very tough match up ... the Greb of legend with his speed, volume and chin would be very tough .. obviously Jones .. maybe Toney .. Nunn if he came balls to the wall .. Maybe Monzon, maybe Hagler .. maybe Robinson but Ray was much smaller .. he's a very tough match up .. all would be close and boring fights, where Bernard excelled ...

 

Given their relative styles, Joe was every bit as long in the tooth at 36 and with a style reliant on speed, stamina and nifty footwork as was Bernard at 42 and reliant more on caginess, knowledge, fouling, faking injuries and pacing.

A younger Joe performs better than a younger Bernard.

 

Actually I think his record does kind of lie. He got gift draws against Robinson, Tiger, and Giardello. Decisions that could have easily EASILY gone the other way against Fernandez and Webb and frankly he should have been DQd against Robinson in their first fight. His second stoppage of Basilio was a joke. So yeah, I think his record looks better than it actually was. I think Hopkins would kick the **** out of him. He would have been the biggest fight Fullmer ever fought by far.

 

I think that's absurd.

 

As much as I love Bennie I just can't see it. Hopkins feasted on bangers like Briscoe. I've said this before but I am shocked you don't like Bhop. He seems like your type of fighter. He came up the hard way with no support from a bigtime promoter and literally developed himself from a street fighter into one of the most well rounded fighters ever. The guy trained his ass off and always came to the ring prepared and with a gameplan. I can't think of one guy that he ducked and the fact that he was fighting brutal punchers like Kovalev, Cloud and Smith in his late 40's is something we rarely have seen in our sport.

 

Watch the sport a few more decades. And turn off the sound as you do so. It will make sense to you.

You may be right about Hagler beating Bernard but as far Oscar I didnt see him win any rounds. He was fighting to survive. There may have been a couple even rounds. It was an easy night's work for Hopkins. I felt he probably carried DelaHoya for a bit.
