I have trouble understanding how people can be so dogmatic in their opinions about these two great fighters. I don't know about Ali having "better" footwork than Louis. Jack Blackburn taught Joe great footwork as far as leverage and balance for punching power and maintaining his balance when he missed a punch. Both men had good footwork when each of their priorities is taken into consideration. Ali was faster on his feet obviously and I think with his hands too. Thus, I favor Ali over Joe because of his speed, better chin, and greater size, but I value Joe's skills too much to go so far as to say that Ali would "school" him.
Only one man's footwork was economical enough to win and it sure as hell wasn't Fancyfeet McDanceypants, I'll tell you that much. Economical.
I can't absolutely see both beating an old Baer, and I can actually see both beating a prime Baer. And I don't see Farr beating Quarry, Bonavena or Chuvalo. Same goes for Godoy.
Joe Frazier was 5'10" and whooped Ali. Besides the point. Ali may have had 10lbs on Joe Louis which means almost nothing at HW. That said, yeah. Ali UD 15. Maybe a 9-6 type decision.
I'd say that Godoy was better than Chuvalo and Farr is on the same level. I think that Quarry and Bonavena are above that level though.
Frazier had much better movement and defense than Louis. He was far harder to hit clean and countered when Ali missed.
Neither one is true. It's one thing to argue that Frazier's style is thougher for Ali to overcome, but Frazier definitely didn't have "muich better movement and defense". Do you even watch fights?
Maybe so, but I wouldn't. I think Chuvalo would beat Godoy (whom I find overrated and, IMO, only had major success vs Louis because of his excessive holding) and Farr.
Godoy did well against typical bruisers in Chuvalo mold, that's why I'd expect him to win this matchup. It's true that he only fared well against Louis because of holding but so what? Chuvalo would likely end stopped by Louis. Either way, I think that Chuvalo definitely wasn't on another level to them. Quarry and Bonavena were though.
