Golovkin jabs his head off in a somewhat fun brawl.

Something to note is that Golovkin is the bigger man here as well. Mugabi was essentially a 154lb dude.

Also GGG on fight night is around 170lbs, Back in the day they didn't rehydrate that much higher than what they weighed in at. I remember reading somewhere that Hagler on fight night was only around 165lbs

Golovkin isn´t a big middleweight by today's standards. But Mugabi could probably have made 147 with day before weigh-ins. At least in his 20s.

It took Hagler 11 rounds of rumbling breaking Mugabi down to get him outta there and Marvins wicked right jab was in my opinion better than GGG's jab. I doubt Golovkin stops the beast in a 12 round fight. I don't see GGG being as aggressive as Marvin in the face of Mugabi's power

I think in this case, styles make fights. IMO Golovkin´s orthodox jab would be way more effective here. Especially how he sets it up.
The ways Mugabi sort of neutralized Hagler´s jab would not work against an orthodox fighter.
However, I fully agree with you on Golovkin not being as aggressive.
Just look at how he treated Lemieux. Or even Alvarez. If the opponent poses a threat(as in counters), Golovkin would happily just box.
Hagler loved to turn things up a notch as the rounds went by.

This. I doubt Golovkin would be eager to trade with a guy like Mugabi when he could control him with the jab. The Mexican Style schtick is mostly a marketing gimmick.

Mugabi can bang, but I don’t see a prime GGG boxing him, past prime yes, but if your taking both at their best, it’s competitive until GGG gets his second wind, by the 7th or 8th GGG turns the tide heavily. Could be sooner. Mugabi was a strong puncher, but in the pocket Lemieux hits harder without a doubt, G doesn’t fight him the same

What a fantasy matchup. I'll take GGG by decision.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Hagler was consistently landing the jab throughout.

Hagler was slower by 1986 with his legs and defensive reflexes and took more punishment that he would have 3 years earlier when he arguably peaked against Sibson, but his jab was effective. GGG's jab would likely be very effective too against Mugabi.
