I like Daniel Dubois but having one eye isnt the worst thing to happen to a fighter, It happens regularly, in a fight he was even stevens or maybe 1 up, you dont quit. get punched to a halt first! He wasnt really rocked once in the fight, Will he be able to fight with heart going into to the future, if he gets put down? Joyce done the things i expected him to do, damaged and old manned dubois, never out of his comfort zone.
He showed some natural ability but his lack of experience was a big problem. I don't get why so many picked Dubois, the gulf in competition that they had faced was very significant. He quit, but there have been quite a lot of fighters who've quit and gone on to show plenty of heart and toughness. I've no idea if he will, but he certainly can come back from it. I can only see into the past not the future. I don't like to kick someone while they're down (unless they deserve it), and I don't like to shame it, but it does make you wonder if he has the self belief and toughness. I do also think toughness is a lot more learnable than most people think though. Honestly I have no idea where I was going with this post, or what my point was.
He said he felt a sharp pain (nerves) in his eye and lost vision completely from it. His health comes 1st, he can fight another day.
Toughness comes through experience without a doubt, as why joyce was easily taking dubois shots in his stride and getting back to the jab game, i thought joyce was a bit tentitive but it was for a reason, Dubois does hit hard. Dubois getting smoke up his ass from fans, promoters, and cornermen. Stopping Joyce easily? no werent going to happen. he looked tired when he tried.
He was out of his depth. And he was obviously hurting. There is no way that the eye wasn´t painful. Joyce hits hard and he jabbed the **** out of that eye. Miniq brought it up and I agree: Dubois corner were freaking out from basically round 1. It likely did a number on Dubois confidence. Fatigue makes cowards of us all.
BLM joke in here somewhere Taking a knee for losing your eyesight in a boxing ring > Taking a knee for a dictatorial commie political organization
Happens. Im not writing him off, hes a good prospect but taking a knee wasnt appropriate. good all out in that round and get stopped. then you will know you can do it, you can go for gold, whether win or lose.
He simply hadn't been prepared for what it was like to have a genuinely grueling fight. Frank had fed him a load of cherry picked opponents to make him look good and that cost him in the end. Remember Vitali quit vs Byrd then when he realised what a mistake that was went to war with Lewis and was willing to lose an eye. Just because Dubois quit now doesn't mean once he's properly seasoned he won't have the mental fortitude to drag himself through a tough fight at another point in his career. How many 23 year old's really know anything about how tough life can be, he probably still lives at home and has his mum wash his clothes. I'd take him quitting at this point as simply his youth and inexperience showing. The real test of his fortitude is yet to come when he comes back and is tested again. If he quits again then yeah stick a fork in him he's done but it's too soon to say he's done, it's how he comes back from this loss that will decide his future.
He quit. That being said it won't be his heart-stopping him from getting to the top. I don't think he will ever be skillful enough. This will be tough on a 23-year-old who had the hype train behind him, I feel a bit sorry for him Frank Warren pulled the trigger too soon.
Got no problem with dubois taking a knee obviously, but he will be absolutely gutted come tomorrow morning
He should have spat out his shield, got up, turned his back and retreated to the ropes. The lean against the ropes for a 5-10 seconds while nodding his head but not moving, then having the fight waved off about 40 seconds after he went down. He'd have more than half the forum saying he was robbed.
