Leo Lomski has caught my eye on Boxrec at times. Holds several damn fine wins and always seemed to be mixing it up with the best in a strong and varied transitional era for the division. Some solid wins at Middleweight, too.

I would mention Billy Miske but based on what I’ve read to this point he’d be very difficult to not rank as a legitimate all time great. Thereby not fitting the criteria. He certainly doesn’t catch a mention often, though.

Non great but underated. I thought there was a pretty good group in the 2000's with Chad Dawson, Antonio Tarver, Zsolt Ederi, Adrian Diaconu, Jean Pascal and Tavoris Cloud. None of these guys are going into the hall of fame but as a collective they were a pretty solid group on non greats with strengths and weaknesses.

Excellent mention. IIRC he dropped Loughran twice, yes?

Yep. One of the more conclusive write ups I’ve seen in a Boxrec link, too. Sheds a good bit of light on Lomski’s career and the truly unfortunate luck he had. According to this particular writer at least.

To name a few Kid Norfolk, Al Gainer, Joe Sekyra, David Cabrera, Lou Brouillard, Henry Hank were very good light heavyweights that I don't see mentioned on here very often. Out of these fighters Al Gainer is the only guy I've never seen any footage of, but Gainer was trained by the great Jack Johnson himself and he was Jimmy Carter's favorite fighter and Jimmy used to always tell me how good a fighter Gainer was.

Think Clinton Woods should be added to that group never a great but a solid fighter with some good wins.

Good mentions, though Brouillard was really a career Welter/Middle. However, he did face a lot of heavier men down the home stretch of his career and acquitted himself well. That period had several fighters that made a career (or at least a good portion of it) of taking those kinds of risks, actually. Big balls.

I remember he got a shot at one of Spinks vacant titles. He was favored but was outhustled by the unorthodox blown up 160 lb. journeyman JB Williamson. He disappeared shortly thereafter. Shortly after I became a die-hard boxing fan KO did a feature article on him after he beat Jerry Martin who had become a steppingstone.
