    They both quit.

Joshua got off the canvas once and then after that he just didn’t want to be there. He hit the canvas twice more from nothing punches. He was stopped on his feet by the ref as he wouldn’t walk forward, as he chose to just stand in the corner, looking at his team with an awkward smile on his face looking for a way out.

It was clear as day he could have carried on if he wanted to, but he didn’t. His eyes weren’t even blurred, he just didn’t want to be there anymore.

I lost a lot of respect from him that night, no world champion should give up his titles with such a whimper. His reaction to losing made it even worse, he seemed borderline happy. It was all very strange to see.

Dubois quit tonight but he had at least lost vision in one eye. Both showed a lack of heart though.

Was wondering what Bowers was whispering to Dubois.

Dubois was rushed into the pros, quite quick. Definitely showed. He was shocked that Joyce could take his power and outbox him. Frank literally stole him from the stork, and made him train in his cellar.

I think Frank looked on in envy at Anthony Joshua and wanted one of his own so Dubois was rushed.

Yup, they hung him out to dry, showing no care for their fighter, now Dubois is copping it from all angles (especially matchroom fans and employees) when he should have been pulled before then.

What ? Who is "everyone" ?
Most people who know Joshua don't even know who Dubois is.
Most boxing fans who do know Dubois considered him a good prospect, nothing more.
I think most boxing fans take what Frank Warren says with a pinch of salt.

I don't know what level he will reach. Don't really want to write him off after one loss at his age.
He is a quitter yeah. But Joyce was always a 50-50 fight and a tough fight.

Dubois was given a very tough test and failed. But I don't see what it has to do with Joshua.

    Dubois did quit.
I don't see why people are blaming his corner, the referee and the doctor.
This was a British title fight, the kid had a closed eye but he was still in there and I thought it was a close fight on the scores. He wasn't taking a brutal beating, he was just being jabbed at.
He looked a bit discouraged and he had a closed swollen eye. But he didn't look out of it or even unsteady.

    The kid quit.
Can't put the blame on others.

    Dubois definitely quit.

I just hope it was due to panic and inexperience of finding himself in a position hes never been in before. Shocked he couldn't knock joyce out and shocked he was getting badly hurt.

Or maybe hes just too nice and doesnt have the killer instinct. Only time will tell but the positive is the cards were very close.

Dianabol Dubois was absolutely blowing a gasket after 2 rounds. You'd think he had just completed a triathlon with the way he was gasping for air in the corner. Joe Joyce is clearly a naturally much bigger man. He's not pumped up to **** and is in excellent physical condition. Dianabol Dubois is another pumped up, hypertrophic heavyweight who would do better if he lost 20lbs. He has a good jab and quite quick hands. Let's see what happens with him.

Said it on another thread, but i got 11/1 on a Joyce stoppage rds 6-12 (before the fight). If I can see these big value odds, and im only a B+ casual, there is money to be made on boxing betting for those who really know their sh!t and are willing to stick more than a tenner on

It's an interesting comparison. Joshua didn't turn pro until after 2012, so was 23/24 - however he had a few years with some very favourable matchmaking arguably until Dillian Whyte* in 2015 (when Joshua was 26).

*That being said, I don't think Whyte was anticipated to go on to have the career he has had at that point in time.

Based in last night, I agree that Dubois does look fairly one dimensional. As long as you can withstand the storm that will come once or twice a round you can frustrate him.

Anyone with good ring IQ, decent toughness and a strong jab would be tough for Dubois. I suspect they thought Joyce would come forward which would favour DDD.

I know the circumstances were challenging given the type of injury, but the nature of the stoppage will give future opponents confidence. It may be an issue for Dubois in the future psychologically too and he may start to have a bit of self doubt.

Very early to say how Dubois' career is going to pan out. Based on last night though, unless there's a freakishly bad future crop of heavyweights, I'm not convinced he'll emulate Joshua's success.

It was obvious he was complaining about the eye before he went out for the last rd. It was a hard call for Bowers, there was only 3 rds left in a massive fight that was still winnable for his fighter. But I do agree that the eye was that bad, it was only going to get even worse.
Them eye irons tho, I'm sure that when an eye gets like that you're probably doing more damage by using them. The heffron fight the other week was the same.
Applying a load of pressure and trying to iron the blood/swelling away from the line of sight can only make it worse once your back in the ring and get punched in the same place.

That was a hard lesson for dubois last night. Joyce is very slow and when dubois put it on him Joyce was in trouble. The problem was dubois never had the gas tank to do it for a long period of time.

I was shocked that he never got up. In the interview after he never really had an excuse for it and hadn't had that sort of experience before.

I think dubois has a good chin and can definitely come again. I'm not keen on his trainer because the seek and destroy tactics only take you to world level but a mover who can take a bit usually makes them look silly and out of there depth.

On paper he hasn't got past British or European level yet so he won't have to go backwards. Back to a British title fight and learn at that level. Dubois has got plenty of time its down to his team now which direction they go and how they prepare him.
