Joyce completely out-boxed Dubois, how far can he go now?

Joyce is "on the way to being a very good fighter"?

Joyce is older than Wilder and several years older than Fury and AJ. Joyce has only one direction to go: downward.

Good for Joyce getting the win, but him doing well isn't that great for the sport. Probably the best we can hope for is Joyce getting one good fight against a top 5 before his career is largely done.

Look how many jabs Joyce landed, Dubois work-rate was awful.

Joyce has a better jab than Wilder.

I think if he has the mental side, then Dubios has the higher ceiling, but his lack of experience was the big problem, he needs to take a few steps back then build back up.

Not really, plenty of heavyweights have fought at a good level into their late 30s and he doesn't have that much mileage. Time is not on his side but he can get a few big fights in.

It was a good fight. joyce moves on and Dubois comes again. A loss means nothing to me.

It wasn't a schooling, but it does show just how important chin and engine are in the top levels. He broke Dubois with those.

I wouldn't call that a schooling. I had it even after 6 rounds but then Joyce took over as Dubois began to wane.

Too many people picked Dubous because of his more aesthetically pleasing style. Sure he hits hard, has a ramrod jab and his fundamentals are sound but boxing is far more than looking good.

Joyce may not past the eye test at first glance but if you know what to look for it was clear he was the more skilled boxer. His jab has greater variety in it's application, it's not just used to set up a right hand, it's used to control range, to disrupt an opponents rhythm and to simply keep an opponent mentally occupied and reacting to what Joyce is doing.

Joyce's movement was something I also highlighted before, people mistake quick feet for good movement. Dubois has quicker feet but he moves in straight lines, Joyce circled, moved laterally to completely take away Dubois' jab at times.

Head movement too, Dubois has none, Joyce is seen as this open guy who's there to be hit but in reality he moving his head and upper body a lot and often rolling with shots to take the power of incoming shots, while it was actually Dubois who's the guy who's the sitting duck and easy to hit.

Joyce up 6-3 at time of stoppage.

Dubois punched himself out in the 5th going for broke and was gassed from then.

If you are giving Dubois more than 4 rounds, you need to re-watch the fight pal.
I cant see you giving him round 4. You may just give him round 1.

Rounds 6-9 were clear Joyce rounds. Dubois was cooked after round 5.

Johnny Fisher who is one of S-JAM Boxing's latest and greatest signings and one the next crop of future dominant HW champions emanating from Great Britain along with Fabio Wardley and David Adeleye has sparred many rounds with Joyce, including in preparation for Dubois, and he said his jab is very heavy and hurtful.

Props for your excellent posts in the build up and aftermath of this fight. You're one of the few people who get what Joyce is about, along with CST80, Serge and (shudder) Mark Ant. Almost everything his detractors accuse him of being/doing is either used as an advantage by him or is simply not true.

He's slow: yep, but he's fully aware of this and makes up for it with great timing and a superior understanding of how to control an opponent with his jab and constant punch variety. Where faster fighters fight in spurts Joyce keeps plugging away during those lulls, breaking his man down.

He's hittable: true, but not nearly as much as alleged. Most of the time he rolls with shots or takes the sting off them with his shoulder and lead hand (right hands) or right glove (left hooks). But he can be vulnerable to uppercuts and bodyshots, a genuine weakness of his.

He has no skill: simply not true. He has a ton of skill, centred around his jab and footwork. He knows exactly how to cut off the ring and mentally pressure fighters into making mistakes or shutting down, at which point the above two weaknesses become moot. Extremely calm under pressure too, and knows exactly what he needs to do to win.

He's old: well yeah, he's no spring chicken, but he's not someone that relies on a young man's qualities to win, but an experienced veteran. I really don't see any deterioration in his abilities, and the seasoning he's gone through has made him even more awkward and hard to beat than before. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him fighting well into his forties.

I think he'll be a nightmare for anyone not named Fury, including Joshua and Usyk. Both those men I think beat him (for now) but I doubt they relish the prospect in the slightest.
