Felt like starting a thread on this after reading what @Dragon Punch said after he watched the fight again. He said that Dubois had said he couldn’t see out of the eye.

Just to get a women’s perspective on it, my partner said on that evidence if he’s told his corner and they’ve not pulled him out, then it takes great courage to turn around and think ‘you know what, they’ve not got my back here sending me back out, I’m making that decision instead’. I can’t help but agree with her. We talk about brave cornerman, once again they should have spared their man that decision. My feelings on it are that they should still go out out on their shield but I’m an armchair fan so who am I to say that someone like that is a quitter?

My point I guess is, his corner need to be held to account here. They let their man down desperately here. We criticise Ingle for pulling Brook out that night but that was a trainer making the right decision and earning his wedge by taking all the flack for it and sparing his fighter being called a quitter. Dubois’s corner should have looked at the eye and read the body language of their fighter. He looked beaten despite the scorecards in his favour.

Just an extra bit, Ian John Lewis again should have also have got a doctor to look at that eye. If it was a cut he would have done definitely so why not when Dubois’s eye has almost shut?

A trainer should know when his man is done instead of chasing their own glory.

100% the corner need to be held to account. The whispering shows you that they knew something weren’t right but wanted to carry on and cover it up.

His corner or the ref should have done more but he still quit. Regardless of all the other stuff if you have it in you to quit like that, whether it was the right decision or not, you are less of a fighter. Dubois will struggle to mentally comeback from that.

nah, hes a fghter, hes meant to fight and go to places others aren't prepared to go he should have dug deep but instead quit.

that might sound really harsh but that's why we watch boxing, these guys are meant to be modern day gladiators....

A big part of me agrees lads. He will never live that down both with the criticism and knowing it himself. My point is, he should have been saved from making that decision himself, his corner should have seen it in him. He shouldn’t have had to make that decision himself, they should have had his back.

Didn't Dubois win the round before ? Can't remember off the top of my head without watching it back. But there wasn't anything in the 9th round to suggest pulling their man out. And no doubt that would have been a justified reason for him binning his training team off if they had pulled him out when he was ahead on 2 scorecards at the time and not getting it put on him excessively.

Joshua, with no external injuries, quit against Ruiz and didn't receive a fraction of the criticism. People are biased sheep.

Main thing for me is vision in other eye; if he can still see through that, he carries on. If the other eye is impaired, then it’s a different story. On appearances Dubois seemed fine moving around after the fight and needed no assistance.

I meant that they should have seen it in between rounds. They were desperately trying to lift their fighter in the corner cos his body language was one of defeat. If he’s saying to them he can’t see out of his eye then they should stop it on his behalf there and then. If his left eye is bust, he’s going to be eating even more shots cos he can’t see the ones winging in from that angle.

Be great being a brave fighter when he is blind.

But least all the boxers and social media folk would respect him.

    The hurt game.

His corner should have at least tried to get him to switch southpaw and keep the left over the eye. All Joyce had was the juggernaut jab, so it wasn't too dangerous switching stance.

Did he definitively say that ?

This is prizefighting. I think people are too readily making excuses for him. The fact that a guy like Frampton came out and says he quit tells me all I need to know.

Didn't receive a fraction of the criticism ? Wow.
