Yeah, Dubois sure as hell copped a lot of solid jabs flush through the fight. He's a young fighter, inexperienced in a tough fight against a proven fighter. I just think he panicked because he couldn't see out of the eye, he didn't know what else to do, simple as that. He got found out but I don't feel comfortable criticising the kid.

It´s fair to criticize him, as a lot of things went wrong.
But I don´t see the point going on about how he is a quitter and a real boxer should have continued.

I was just look back at my notes on the RBR. In retrospect the point in which Dubois had the fight beaten out of him was after the 5th.

That was the last round of the fight I had him winning, his last full blown all out attempt at making plan A work. Plan A being the only plan. To lay Joyce out via an aggressive all out attack. The 5th was the last round in the fight he had the gas in the tank to go for it.

Joyce won the 6th and 7th, and by the 8th he was hitting the left eye on the blindside and Dubois wasnt seeing the shots coming.

By the end of the 9th Joyce knew he had won as he could feel all of the fight drain out of Dubois.

He admitted to quitting in the brief post fight interview too.

He admitted the quit was due to blowing himself out and the eye injury.

He blew himself out by the end of the 5th round. He emptied everything he had in one last attempt at getting a KO, didnt get it. Then had no plan B to win.

Given how well Joyce had stood up to bombs coming down on him from rounds 2-4, it was very ill judged.

I think saying he quit is harsh. When it comes to injuries to the eyes and potentially losing vision it’s easy to sit here and say he quit. It would be easy to panic in that situation. What do you want to do? Keep your pride or keep your eyesight?

    You agree with me then.
    He quit.
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with quitting, every boxer has a human right to quit, and yeah there's more to life than boxing ...... but it is worth noting in boxing which fighters have proven immense heart and which fighters haven't. Since immense heart goes a long way in this sport, and is important at the top level too.
That's why we talk about quitting and judge it and note it.

It is what it is. I have no problems with him preserving his health here. These types of injuries are different to just getting you ass beat and giving up.

Exactly, he quit and it was the sensible thing to do. 2 more rounds of punishment to that eye and his career might be over at 21.

Dubios was raised in UK? i get it.

But he was raised in a rough poor hood he wouldn't be a quitter. Those are different breeds they still scrap with broken eye sockets and ear flapping on their side.Take for example Margarito and Marquez. Freaking hell, driking his **** and blood to win a fight. Margarito one eye socket was cracked the other was also shut still kept fighting. Inoue another one heart of champion. But look every fighter is different. We know that.

Magarito was also a dirty cheater so depends if you'd rather be known as a quitter or cheater

Margarito also had been a badass for his entire career.
This was the first time Dubois had to deal with anything like this.

Inoue managed to fight through a similar injury. As did Yoel Romero in MMA. But they too had already had though fights(Inoue not so much, but still). But the thing with Dubois is that he is young, inexperienced, his corner was freaking out between the rounds AND he kept getting jabbed to that eye.
Inoue didn´t take as many shots to the eye as Dubois did.

I think it really came down to Dubois just being out of his depth and the fatigue getting the better of him. I honestly think he is nothing like Victor Ortiz was.
He reminds me more of Sergio Martinez who crumbled under Margarito´s pressure, but came back strong.
