Easy to say when you get pounded by feather fisted Josh Warrington - he should try being hit by a man 18.5 stone and feel the pain.

 

His fight with Warrington is irrelevant. Frampton is a level headed guy without hyperbole and knows a few things about boxing and fighting.

 

Corner know that DDD is Frank’s cash cow and they genuinely thought like Frank that Daniel was the real deal and this was the fight to underline it and the door would open to big money fights. It went tits up after 6 minutes imo. Well done DDD for taking the knee and telling your team that your health is no1 priority. He’ll get a shot for a WT at some point as he’s young but things will need to change and hope his father who I understand is his advisor will see that.

By running away from a little fatty in Saudi - even more embarrassing than the first fight.

 

He was totally out on his feet and received plenty of criticism.

Plus Joshua had already showed he could get off the canvas to win.

 

I think quitting with an injury like that to prevent further risk to your health is a perfectly sane and sensible decision, and he shouldn’t be shamed or ridiculed for it. That said, he did quit and if you’re analysing his future prospects then he has shown a weakness, the ability to take punishment matters in boxing, even if it’s not sensible.

Dubois’ corner was pretty ****, it’s incredible that there was no plan to protect an eye if something happened. How often do we see a clash of heads and a cut open up, but there was zero adjustment and little practical advice.

 

You should put your request into Sky and BT pal.

Each fight on the card must have a pundit from the relevant weight class who has faced fighters with similar power / KO ratios.

 

On this forum AJ received 100 x the criticism that Dubois is currently getting.

I think boxers who quit that in a fight are hurt or are receiving a lot punishment do get OTT criticism.

Especially the old cheesy rocky cliche of "you need heart to a champion" or ""he will never be able to cover from this loss" BS that AJ got and DDD is currently getting.

Dubois is 22, clearly talented. However just like Hughie Fury, Dubois was mismanaged going from fighting guys outside the top 50 to fighting Joyce.

 

He quit.

I'm not sure the corner did anything wrong.

 

The same posters who ridiculed Joshua endlessly are now forgiving Dubois through sympathy, bit like BT last night they can’t hide their bias.

 

At the end of the day plenty of fighters have suffered worse and carried on. Yeah, you can say "well, it's not you in there. It's his health and it's up to him to make that decision". But this prizefighting and if you want to get to the top then you have to have it in you to dig deep in those situations. It's as simple as that really.

I think his corner also knew something about his mentality because as soon as the eye started swelling and there was blood coming from the nose, their body language and the way they were talking to him was really giving off major warning signals. You could tell from the body language and whole demeanor of Dubois himself that something wasn't right. And this was early in the fight when he wasn't even hurt, he had just faced his first bit of real adversity and you could see that he really didn't like it and his corner were seriously worried.

 

As I said in another thread, I think toughness is a lot more learnable, and less innate than many people think.

The critiscism about quitting is overblown, and I agree it shouldn't be shamed, but there will be questions about his toughness until proven otherwise.

It can certainly happen, while ahead on the cards, Vitali quit against a undersized Chris Byrd, who was fighting on short notice, he went on to do ok.

Going further back Joe Gans quit due to a cut in his first world title shot against Frank Erne, there was disagreement about who had the advantage in that one. There are other examples but that's two very notable ones.

I agree it's not the greatest thing to see, but it's not time to write him off.

 

Partly because BT have pundits on who call it like they see it. Frampton said live on BT Sports that dubois quit, plain and simple. Sky wouldn’t allow anyone to call it when big Josh quit like a dog against the obese grinning little Mexican fella.
