Yes, he is a quitter. He literally quit mid round. That makes him a quitter even if he had a reason. This is not a bad thing unless it becomes standard for him. Yes it was the right thing to do. He’s young and has a long career ahead of him. The word quit means nothing unless you make a habit out of it. Vitali quit once and everyone said he was done, had no heart. Perhaps Dubois can prove us wrong like Vitali did but until he does he is just another big puncher out of the UK with no Heart.
i dont think he is a quitter,,,, well put it this way, if he gets his orbital bone broken then he quits, but he wasnt quitting prior to that in anyways that i saw,,, if i felt part of my orbital bone break and couldnt see out of my eye, a powerful thought of never fighting again if i dont stop would come over me i would guess,, so that is quitting with the intention of stopping so you can fight again in future rather than getting hit again in the same spot and have it break even further,,,, would some guys have gone on? yes, but that doesnt mean DD cant learn and get better from this loss,,,
It's terrible the amount of stick he's getting for ''quitting,'' from both fans and fellow fighters alike. He's only young and it would be a tragedy if his career were to come to an early end due to injury.
I think a lot of people's motives for going in so hard on Dubois is because they backed him to beat Joyce and also there's a lot of fans out there who are still majorly butthurt about the tiny island of Great Britain dominating the sport's glamour division with an iron fist and I think their fears have been exacerbated by the fact that there's a whole crop of young British HWS coming up who are going to ensure that domination continues for many years to come. Will repeat yet again: 1) It was good that he quit to avoid permanent injury 2) He did it is a terrible looking way 3) It opened a lot of eyes about how overhyped he was 4) The irony of his injury relative to his ugly comments about Joe's mom is not lost on the general public. No, he is a not a "quitter." No, he is not finished. But yes, the fight did incalculable damage to his career on a number of levels.
I find it absolutely disgusting he is being labelled a quitter, in my opinion he did the right thing. People should watch the Benn MCclellan fight, where Gerald took a knee and was called a quitter live on tv by the commentators, and look what happened after. A fighter knows something is wrong they all do, but to be labelled a quitter is just plain wrong, regardless of who you support.
I'm all for fighters listening to their bodies. Better to take a knee than suffer worse injury. The stigma around quitting a fight has harmed the sport immensely, with a lot of guys taking life-altering or life-ending beatings they might have avoided. Besides, you never really know from the outside what's going on with someone. Remember Ferdie Pacheko accusing Gerald McClellan of being a quitter after he took a knee against Benn. Comments like that do not age well. It would be better for people not to criticize fallen fighters. This is different from someone like Tor Hamer who actually did just quit, or guys who take dives. But Dubois was obviously injured and decided to live to fight another day. It was the right move no matter what his critics say.
yes he quit. did he do it for no reason? of course not, but he still quit. personally, if he knew he didnt want to continue with that eye, i would have liked to see him unload all hes got in one last effort to salvage the fight, and then quit. there just wasnt enough dog in him to push back that fear for that one last effort.
