Dubois up on two cards - Judge John Latham gave Dubois seven of the nine rounds

Was the fight in America? I thought only corrupt judging was something unique in America.

7 of 9 is extreme, for sure, but I can see how a judge might have had Dubois slightly up. I don’t agree, but there are quite a few examples of judges not taking a shine to jabbers in a particular bout. Golovkin vs Canelo, Kova vs Ward, Herrera vs Garcia, Malignaggi vs Broner ....lots of examples.

It’s a real problem in boxing..... subjective scoring. It’s why we have such wildly varying cards in the very same fights. It sucks because in that vein it’s more like goddam ice skating where a preference in style or esthetic can swing the result.

In a blood and guts sport like boxing..... too much room for error and the sacrifices are too great.

 

The British judges took it upon themselves to decide what was in the best interests of British boxing.

They thought getting the young bloke over the line was in the best interests of the sport in their country & were prepared to screw over a guy who delivered an Olympic medal for them & had to win to carry his career forward into legitimate contender status.

Despicable stuff really by them. In a cross-roads fight like that, with Joyce's career hanging in the balance, you'd reckon they would play it straight down the middle instead of trying to play God.

 

Joe was always going to have to stop Dubois in this fight to get the win.

He was expected to play second fiddle to the young up and coming Dubois who was viewed as the bigger cash cow.

I wonder how much longer Joe stays with his current promoter.

 

Of course they were going to try to rob Joyce. It's a common place to rob the less popular fighter these days. It happened the night before with Jacobs/Rosado and it will continue to happen. What I don't like is how brazen these judges are getting. They know they can get away with it and there is nothing anyone can do about it. It's disgusting and corrupted.

Luckily Joyce bought his equalizer to take the fight out of the judges' hand...the left jab.

One of those fights that comes down to personal choice. Quanity over quality. Dubois throwing the better shots. Joyce throwing more.

Its going to be divisive.

 

A huge problem. Joyce should have been up 2-3 rounds.

 

He was either one up or it was evens. Hurty eye stopped him from nicking a decision.

 

Dubois might have thrown quality shots but they didn't stop Joyce from jabbing his head off for the whole of the fight. Whenever Dubois threw a flurry Joyce tied him up and appeared the stronger man in the clinches. Joyce controlled Dubois and simply took him apart with the jab. Joyce threw practically nothing else. Dubois lost that fight before the 10th round came. He was a beaten man, you could see it in the corner from early in the fight.
