Joyce won't be looking back at the fringe contenders for his next fight. He will be at the tippy top come next month.

 

Remember all the stories about Dubois knocking Joshua out in the gym? Me too.

 

He does have to earn that shot because Joyce is now in prime position to get a shot at Usyk if the WBO belt goes vacant or at worst be next in line once Joshua/Usyk happens.

Hrgovic right now brings nothing to the table for Joyce, he isn't a draw, doesn't have a ranking that benefits Joyce in anyway he can't even claim a win at amateur level to promote a revenge fight angle in the pros because when they fought in WSB Joyce beat him.

Fact is Joyce is the one with the momentum right now, he took a risk to fight Dubois and that along with the Jennings win propels him into legit contender level, fighting Hrgovic while a good fight is actually a backwards step.

Joyce is aiming for the Usyk's, Joshua's, Fury's, Whyte's, Povetkin type level fighters with name recognition that increase his profile and get him to a title. If Hrgovic realistically wants the fight he needs to put himself in that kind of bracket of fighter, so it's now time for him to step up in this next year.

Props to Joyce for being all he can be and moving himself into position for a bigger match. The truth on Joyce, who I like is he's slow, wide open for flush shots or counters and on the wrong side of 30. Hrgovic who would be the better boxer with faster hands and longer reach would beat him to the punch and give him no quarter.

Mike Hunter if you want the truth is a solid boxer without size or power who can not match up with a skilled super heavyweight,

IMO Hunter will go no further, Joyce might if he gets the right match up as Fury could very well be out of shape, and Joshua can be chinny.

 

If you judge from fights vs Ruiz.
Ruiz is still seriously undervalued.
He does bead really very hard and is highly skilled.
He does have flavs like too short reach for modern HW and he is leg lazy and looks that he is lazy guy too.
Still he is one of best counter puncehers in HW division with fast hands and he really does beat very effective if he landed.
Even Ruiz's skills level and experience level is seriously undervalued.
Washed floor with A.J and lost on points, very impressive A.J legacy fights.

Another stuff used to establish his kingship are fights with Klitcshko and Povetkin.
While they in their prime most likelY easily switched off A.J completely cold.

 

Ruiz ate himself out of boxing. He's fat and slow now. Hasn't fought in a year either in that fight he was awful. A shame. The division needs him in shape.

Joshua does not have a good chin, a hitter on Ruiz Jr's level showed us that, and I think he has some minor gas tank issues too. But like you said, he has a cannon of a right hand, and IMO is a super heavyweight with skills. At least Joshua, unlike Fury and Wilder fights top ten competition.

IMO If Povketin or Wlad was a few years younger, they beat Joshua. I do consider Joshua a worthy champion.

 

I never said Joyce was a bad fighter. He's probably top 10 now, but is limited in the ways I said.

Hunter has power? At best he's a modest puncher. His KO% is just 60% and inflated by weak competition early in his career. Hunter might face Welliver ( age 37 ) next, who's really over weight and ranked 381 in the world at Box Rec.

 

Hrgovic should fight Wallin, perfect matchup.
