Errol Christie was a world beater in the gym apparently. Another guy called Johnny Walker Banks was used by Hagler, Spinks, and by Leonard for the Hagler fight. (Eubank Sr says both those guys tore him to pieces in the 80s and brought him on.)
Jerry Quarry knocked Ken Norton out with a right hand in one sparring session, and with a body shot another time. I would like to see those. And, while I was at the old Main Street gym in LA, I would like to see a teenage Bobby Chacon sparring with Olivares and Herrera. And senior citizen Ray Robinson boxing with Carlos Palomino.
There's only one set of "sparring sessions" that needs to come down to us: Greb - Dempsey. Apparently the crowd of onlookers was going crazy by the end of it.
The fabled Greb - Dempsey sparring footage would have to be at the top of the list. Foreman - Liston of course, Lewis - Tyson, any footage of Bernard Mays at the Kronk sparring Hearns, Toney, McClellan or whoever else.
Roy Jones vs Ray Leonard Ray Patterson vs Sonny Liston Tyson vs Holyfield Tyson vs Lewis Valero vs Mikey Floyd vs Whitaker
Came in here to post Liston-Foreman, Dempsey-Galento and some classic Kronk gym wars, and that's already been covered. I'll throw in footage of the William Muldoon fight camp for Sullivan to whip him into shape for Kilrain and some sessions from Larry Foley's school.
There is footage of Page and Tyson sparring I think before his loss to Douglas where Mike gets floored.
So many fights without footage keep me wondering, now I am forced to ponder sparring matches I never actually thought about the amount of gym wars not caught on camera across history till now.
It was before Charles-Marciano I, that's the fight Charles was training for. So a very green Liston, but Charles supposedly schooled him. Like, completely dominated him. I'd like to how Charles dealt with the style, jab and reach though.
