This is a preposterously thorough post on the subject of Joe Calzaghe's punching power, but the only thing I will retain is that someone, somewhere, was named "Andy Flute"

No mention of Pernell Whitaker so far ?? No he wasn't pillow fisted but P4P he was a lesser puncher than the already mentioned Mayweather and Calzaghe IMO.

    1. Maxie Rosenbloom (his nickname was literally 'Slapsie' - 274 fights with only 19 Kos)
    2. Willie Pastrano
    3. Sven Ottke
    4. Joey Maxim

(Three of the top 4 were light heavys. The other was a super middle. Hmm?)

 There was. Shared a ring with a lot of good fighters, both in the gym and actual fights, and his uncle Colin Flute also boxed professionally too lol

Same can be said about Malignaggi and Floyd. They too adapted their technique. Malignaggi developed tragically horrendous punch technique.
    Floyd was a bit smarter.

He had problems because he slapped. Not the other way around. Calzaghe was breaking bones in his palm.

Even on the come up, I remember Calzaghe, although hitting fairly hard, clearly with an open hand.

Even in the amateurs where stoppages are much rarer than the pros Calzaghe hit hard. He stopped all but one of his opponents on his way winning his 2nd and 3rd consecutive ABA championships at LMW and MW respectively despite it being his first year campaigning at those weights and some of his stoppage victims were quality fighters like future WBC SMW champion Glenn Catley, future WBO MW champion Jason Matthews, and future British and European SMW champion Dean Francis (RIP) who was easily talented enough to win a world title himself had he not unfortunately suffered a serious shoulder injury.

Paulie M never unified belts, but he'd be a solid contender for this.

Chris Eubank hitting the deck, Byron Mitchell getting sparked with a still groggy calzaghe. He had good power before his hands went, definitely eased off on power to save them
