In hindsight? So we didn’t know that before the fight?

We did. But i think most of us including frank got carried away with dubois and that silver medalist looked like a knockout waiting to happen against a big puncher.

Turned out in hindsight joyce was better than most of us thought and dubois wasnt quite ready for it.

Fair enough mate, a lot of what you said is true. For me I think Frank had ruined Dubois’ career through his own greed. He was so desperate to have his own AJ that he’s moved Dubois quickly without going through any levels. He’s gone from smashing no hopers to being in a proper test with a very gritty, tough silver medalist in Joe Joyce.

Totally agree bud. I still reckon warren knew dubois wasnt all that great to start with. But he was desperate so he got guys in to make him look great and ended up getting carried away with him also thinking joyce was a knockout waiting to happen.

Combination of desperation thinking joyce wasnt all that good and starting to believe dubois was better than he was. But i think frank knew at the start otherwise he,d have had him fighting better competition or maybe it was all down to finances but dubois,s competetion barring gormans been painfully low.

Hindsight is the magic word tho...looking back i still dont think dubois done too badly overall. I had joe winning....but dubois was competetive. He just wasnt ready for that level. The injuries the biggest problem tho...that and frank days of investing in fighters look over. Just a case of bigging up beating no hopers nowadays looking for a weak guy to get a win over. Backfired on him this time tho.

Still think dubois is good enough to come back and become a good fighter. But he wont be the next joshua or that level. Too many flaws in him.

The point I was making is that the body shot 'quit' is widely accepted in boxing which is odd for a sport where they are all supposed to be 'warriors'

Ok and the point I was making was that all the big lug did was push out the old trombone left hand jab. ( Trombone player elbows point down at the floor, like Joyce)!
Mystery why DDD didn't jab with him though. Can't understand that.

Ah, I don’t venture over there, probably best that I don’t if it involves debates over socio-economic topics. I’ll lose hours of my life, and I already get plenty of stick for the amount of time I spend on my phone.

Glad to hear you’re well though.

I don't think most people "got carried away with Dubois".
I think a lot of people just picked the younger fighter, the guy who you'd tip to be improving with every fight, the guy who looked to throw faster combinations. Over the slower old guy who was a top amateur but not particularly accomplished in the pros.
    Nothing wrong with that.

He wasn't thrown to the wolves.
It was a good test, and he was British champion by virtue of beating another rated prospect last year.
Dubois just failed the test. That happens.
He didn't do badly. He just lost, failed the test, couldn't go the distance.

A good number of us called it a 50-50 fight going in. Because it was.

Not sure i agree it ended up a 50/50 fight even though dubois was up on the cards. From the fight what we can take....dubois ran out of ideas. He couldnt get out the way of the jab. His power never bothered joyce. Didnt have a clue how to pace himself. Think the commentator commented saying he looked shocked from joyce early in the fight. Sort of became reluctant and needed constant coaxing from his cornerteam. Allowed himself to be counted out from a jab. Feet looked slow. Didnt get any sort of Combinations going. A few more as well. On the otherhand everything from joyce,s point of view was positive.

Agree with what your saying but the reality was that wasnt a 50/50 fight. Looked more like a guy not quite on the same level as the opponent. Thats coming from someone that tipped dubois to win as well. I,d have probably made the same fight if i was warren tbf.

But in hindsight people did get carried away with dubois knocking out journeymen imo anyway.

Not criticising him cause he does still have potential. Needs a proper boxing education tho. As in top training and the right fights at ghe right time.

Spencer Oliver was on Talksport earlier stating that Haye and Frampton were totally out of order with their post fight analysis including comments about Dubiois. Oliver stated that Haye has since apologised for his post fight comments.

Big John Fury was also very strong in his condemnation stating clearly that Dubois done the right thing to prevent a serious injury becoming a career/life changing injury.

Yeah, and he knows a bit about serious eye injuries.

Good post but I'm not convinced Joyce IS " more accomplished". He's just huge with a head like a brick. All he did was take a few bombs and stick his jab into a stationary target that made NO adjustments whatsoever. Nothing particularly accomplished about that.

It looked like he was only straightening his arm with most punches on the same eye but his head is solid.

Will be a problem for Joshua as well with his poor stamina if Joyce gets through 4 rounds should they meet.

Not sure i agree with the thats all he done bit len. Joyce was offsetting him a lot on saturday night...using decent lateral movement to stop dubois from getting off or even getting started. Thats what dubois was struggling with almost as much as the jab.

Will watch the fight back when i get the chance but definetely picked up on joyce,s defence. There was a reason he only took a few bombs on saturday it wasnt just the jab.

It was almost strange to watch if that makes sense.
