1st one was a novelty...fans were eager to see him and he seemed to have shown the world beforehand he was in good shape with the promo vids put out to sell a PPV. But come on, he's not remotely as good as his prime years, he wasnt even great 15yrs ago. He looks good now and seemed to put on a bit of a show in this exhibition with Jones but surely he won't get away with maybe more than 1 more? His PPV sales were clearly very good...but thats gotta be a novelty thing for the public. The circus surely wouldn't get away with repeat PPVs in the future no? Maybe another against Evander and then that's gonna be it...? Whaddya reckon guys ? Novelty or new market to exploit ?
Seriously, why do you give a ****? It's Mike ****ing Tyson, he can do as many as he wants. Are you going to stop him lol?!
The Tyson-Jones bout was a classic, 8-round no-decision fight. Just like the ones they used to stage in the early 20th century. That's what they looked like. I think these should be considered and labeled no-decision fights going forwad (unless there is a regulatory reason they can't be) and I think Tyson-Jones should be labeled in Boxrec as a no-decision, too, and go on their records. Guys like Jack Johnson, Sam Langford, and Harry Greb have a ton of them on there. See thread the thread in Classic, since everyone in Classic is afraid to discuss it over there.
Teddy Atlas recent interview said they had to have a no decision so thats why it was a set up - a draw. Teddy Atlas on Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr fight - YouTube
Until he gets beat up badly and then the discussion of allowing senior citizens to box will take over. People love Tyson and will always wanna see him. Long as he doesn't get beat up badly, people are gonna wanna see him and this incarnation.
He was paid ten million dollars and it sold 1.2 million buys at $50. Your question is how long can he do this for... The answer is: UNTIL THE MONEY STOPS
It doesn't - i'll watch, but for free on youtube. I'd never pay for a PPV of an elderly way past prime fighter fighting another way past prime fighter. So, yeah if Tyson wants to do it i'll support via youtube, just not taking it serious that i'd shell out for it. And just wonder if its casual fanboy types that is the target market rather than die hard proper boxing fans.
Most likely some of both. As someone posted above, as long as the $ is there, you're going to be seeing these oldster, nostalgia exhibition fights.
Canelo did exhibit his superior skills against Golovkin, that's for sure. Got robbed in the first and dominated in the second. Great exhibition of skill in both.
