Would Calzaghe have been able to beat prime Marvin Hagler?

That would be an interesting matchup but I would give it to Hagler because skill and power.

Calzaghe was a 185lber in there, Hagler a 155lber (tops) in there on the night.

It is a mismatch, MH thrown around like a ragdoll and taken early.

Yes absolutely. Size advantage, footwork advantage, speed advantage, workrate advantage. Divisions exist for a reason.

    I don't see why.

Hagler was not a very big MW whereas zaggers fought up to 175lb with rehydration rules that favoured him. He probably had 25lb on Hagler on fight night.

    Could Hagler beat a LHW?

    Certainly.

Could he beat one of the best fighters at that weight that ever lived, using a style that was problematic for Hagler even if they'd been the same size?

    Probably not.

I wouldn't call Calzaghe one of the best LHWs that ever lived, but otherwise a solid point.

Wasn't Calzaghe a decent banger before the hand troubles? He put Eubank down at least.

Hagler was probably a harder puncher p4p but since Calzaghe probably was around 20 lbs bigger I would definitely hesitate to say he was in absolute terms. At least compared to a younger Calzaghe who didn't have to spare his hands as much.

Calzaghe was a also a quite skilled costumer, so don't see a big divide there in any case.

Calzaghe was a huge one-punch knockdown banger before he kept breaking his hand. That's one reason why he kept damaging it - on heads.....

Are we talking about Marvin moving to Supermiddle?
If so, Joe gets a decision win. Hagler tough as rock but Joe's hand speed is the difference.

Joe is too big for Marv but there is no knockout here.

The reason you get slated is because you always exaggerate.

I was thinking that at Hagler time there was no super middle weight division yet so would someone of Calzaghe size have fought in middle weight or as light heavy weight?

Calzaghe was a huge man, walking around at 200lb.
