Ernie Terrell vs Frank Bruno in their primes. Does Big Ernie wear Frank down with his clutching and wrestling? Or does Frank kayo Terrell?

I don't see a ko. Honestly this fight could have some exciting moments but both guys could stink up a joint when hurt with excessive grabbing. I think it depends on the ref and Bruno's mentality. If he doesn't fear getting nailed too hard (which he shouldn't in a fight like this) i could see him confidently hammering away with his heavy jab from long range and not allowing Terrel to use his spoiling tactics. Then once he softens him up, throw a few clubbing right hands and 2-3 punch combinations without getting too greedy and allowing Terrel to get close and grab him.

I guess it also depends on who you think had the better jab. If Terrel outjabs Bruno, expect a more exciting fight as Bruno will let his hands go and Terrel will have no choice but to fight it out as Bruno had tremendous strength and was close in height and reach--something Terrel isn't used to.

I lean toward Bruno 6/10 with a small chance of a TKO.

I think this is a really thoughtful analysis that I think lays it out perfectly and smartly. Couldn't add anything more.

Really, this is no contest. Terrell had a much better jab, and was much tougher, and their resumes have a big difference. Terrell was no fun 2 watch, but did beat a lot of big names legitimately. Bruno on the other hand, only beat McCall really. I say that cuz one can hardly count Coetzee, Tillis, and Williams as good wins considering how old all of them were. There really is a fine line btwn Terrell and Bruno's resumes. Like Glass City Cobra, I can see Bruno letting his hands go from time to time, but I can't see Bruno doing more than win a couple rounds due 2 troubled stamina. I would count out a knockout cuz of Terrell's resilience and lack of power, but I wouldn't rule out an exhaustion TKO late in the fight 4 Terrell, depending on how far this goes. If it went 15, Bruno certainly would not make it.

True, Ernie Terrell did defeat Cleveland Big Cat Williams in April 1963 after being stopped by Williams in 7 rounds the year before. But Big Ernie defeated Eddie Machen, Doug Jones, and George Chuvalo before suffering that very humiliating defeat to Muhammad Ali on Feb 6 1967. Later in the WBA Tournament, Terrell was soundly beaten by Thad Spencer. And Bruno's only claim to fame were the knockout losses to Mike Tyson and Tim Witherspoon.

All depends if Terrell can take him deep. They both have good resumes but Bruno has more holes.

Ernie Terrell does not have the punch to kayo Frank Bruno but has the chin to withstand any Bruno onslaught. Ernie would jab, clutch, wrestle Frank in the clinches, causing frustration and desperation. Frank will land big bombs but Ernie has faced heavy hitters, Cleveland Big Cat Williams, and George Chuvalo. Bruno could not stand up to the power of Mike Tyson and Tim Witherspoon. His only famed win was over Oliver McCall. Terrell decisions Bruno in a tedious affair that puts the audience to sleep.

Don't forget the losses to Lewis and Smith. Even though Ali dominated Terrell though, Terrell showed loads of guts by carrying on through the final round, and he had 2 badly cut and swollen eyes in the last half of the fight. Ali himself said Terrell was too tough 2 get stopped or even go down.

Actually, thinking about how much both rabbit punched, they could both get pretty mad. This might actually be a real furious contest.

Terrell would would have pulled out all the stops...would have trotted out all his rather boring but effective smothering and shut down techniques and methods in becoming the "octopus" and winning a decision...a dreary, dull decision over Bruno. Of course Terrell wouldn't knock out Bruno...when was a ko ever a part of Ernie's modus operandi??? Terrell would have leaned on, jabbed and grabbed, fouled, and frustrated Bruno throughout the fight,...avoiding and voiding anything effective from Frank and would have earned the decision...close but clearly for ET. Terrell, give him credit, was a long, tall, heavyweight version of Sammy Angott...a really effective spoiler at his best...before the Ali fight and his subsequent downslide.

Bruno seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't know how to deal w/ all of Terrell's tactics. He seems like he would be helpless.
