Oleksandr Usyk is physical proof Ali would do well in the modern heavyweight era

People suggest that 70s heavyweights are too small for modern heavyweights but i heavily disagree as holyfield, usyk, and other relatively small heavyweights had success fighting other superheavyweights

 

Obviously Ali would have done very well in this era but let’s not use a guy who hasn’t beat anyone in the heavyweight division as an example.

 

I don't think anyone has said otherwise. Saying that Fury is too big of a mover for Ali to compete with isn't the same as saying Ali wouldn't do well in this era.

Ali would do well as long as he avoids Fury.

 

You mean that chisora who had lost 1 every 3 fights and who had several inches reach disadvantages vs usyk? that chisora? the same chisora who had 50% KO rate in heavy weight?

There's been plenty of evidence. My favorite is the obvious fact that every pound over 230 in 90% of "super heavyweights" today is pure body fat that they would have never gotten away with carrying into the ring in the 15 round era

 

Lol you're the one who said "shot chisora" what is a prime chisora to you ?. And chisora took out carlos takkam quicker than alexander povetkin did. The same povetkin who gave joshua problems and knocked out whyte past his prime

You probably think " oooooh they're bigger so they must hit harder and they'll destroy every heavyweight in history" Size matters but as soon as you reach around 200lb it only matters to an extent. Roy jones proved this right, evander holyfield proved this right, david haye proved this right, larry holmes proved this right, joe fraizer proved this right. Etc. You sound stupid

 

I haven’t heard anyone suggesting young Ali would struggle against today’s HWs. Prime Ali destroys these guys.

I've just seen a few people that think ali would struggle and loose some fights against the top 15 since heavyweights are bigger than they were in the 70s.

 

Clay may certainly have had the tools to remain competitive against larger HWs, although eventually his time would run out, consider how much punishment he took at the hands of smaller men, just imagine how quickly that would catch up to him against guys like AJ, Lennox, Bowe and even Wilder....
but Usyk is hardly the example to throw out there. the guy has done nothing at HW besides get on his bicycle and run the triathalon around used up retread HWs who were never that great in their primes

 

If Fat Andy could win a strap against the top HW at the time, Ali would be trouble. I don’t think people remember how great he was in his prime. He was a special fighter who moved so well and had fast hands with power. He stuck around for too long but in his prime, he had every tool. Maybe the perfect HW. People have short memories I guess. Ali was more than special.

I’d like to see any of these guys fight Ali in a 15 round fight. I was sorry to see championship fights shortened to 12 rounds. Guys with great stamina have less of an advantage these days.

 

Usyk did good against Chisora and Whitherspoon but he still needs to face someone in the upper echelon of the division with a significant height and reach advantage (I.E Fury, AJ, Wilder, Povetkin ,etc) on him before we can compare to Ali lol.
