It’s a really good fight, but canelo should’ve fought benavidez for the vacant wbc title

Is the lineal title on the line? Thought there hasn't been a lineal champ since Ward left the division. That'd have to be contested between Smith and Benavidez rightfully.

Money doesn't change the fact that Canelo isn't #2 at the weight class until he beats someone worthy of giving him that place. Fielding absolutely doesn't qualify him for that. Lineal status is probably the only thing that money can't buy.

Smith is the Ring Champ, closest to lineal, if not already tagged as lineal. And yes, it can buy it if you are a big enough cash cow that you get to fight for it w/o doing much, but being popular. If Canelo wins a highly disputed decision, $$ will have bought him that title, IMO.

The Ring title and the lineal title are separate. There won't be a lineal champ from this fight. Although having three belts on the waist is definitely gonna make whoever wins this #1. A new lineage is only established when the consensus #1 and #2 guys fight each other.

Lineal and Ring Magazine titles were on the line for World Boxing Super Series final, Smith vs. Groves

Canelo is fighting the guy yo beat at 168, and it will be a tough assignment for sure. How Canelo deals with smiths size advantage is going to be interesting.warrrneloo

No surprises here. If Canelo wins they’ll just say he’s franchise champion and elevate the Yildrim fight vs whomever for the vacant WBC title.

No Smith vs Groves wasn't for the lineal belt.

Of course it is. The WBC even put their title on the line for Canelo after stripping Cotto.
