Alexis Arguello vs Kevin Rooney

I’d recommend to just watch ALL of his fights.

 

Beautifully done. Arguello set him up with a few half speed
punches, then "BOOM" a laser beam of a right hand ,full speed, full power,
perfectly timed and placed . Rooney fell like he was shot. The beauty
and brutality of boxing at its best.

 

Its a shame he is gone, I can just imagine him as a ringside announcer/anylist. Would probably be the best!

 

Alexis Arguello was a great champion with class. He defined the word championship athlete, a great example on how an athlete is supposed to carry himself in public, a perfect example to the young and old. He was a real technician in the ring, long left jab, good combinations, and a big right hand, his defense was good too. A true gentleman before and after a fight. He is missed, one of my favorite fighters.

just watched it, walks in the ring, dosen't even look around, goes straight over to Rooney to say hi! After the KO is very concerned about Rooney. He was a guy with much love in his heart!

 

I remember reading a story about Arguello meeting Chacon at the weigh-in for their fight. Chacon arrived in bare feet. Arguello, concerned Chacon would catch cold, set a towel or article of his clothing on the cement floor for Bobby to stand on. Rare chivalry in any era.

 

As I have posted, Alexis Arguello was pure class and a great champion.

 

One of my favorite Arguello performances. He was near flawless in that fight, almost landing at will and showing why he was a level above. Arguello had the best right hand technique, as shown by his beautiful KO of Rooney. Great fighter, clean style, near perfect punching form and precision, and a class act.

 

The sounds is out of sync in your video. I knew as soon as i watched it as the most striking part of this right hand is that is is as good as any, ever, sound wise. Without discrediting it, i think the sound was captured better than a lot of other great right hands and is a big part of why it is so awesome. The impact sound in your video occurs when the jab lands, not the right hand, which made it a weird listen lol.

Alexis could definitely play that tap-tap-BAM game. Get ‘em used to getting hit, lull them into a bit of a ‘meh this guy doesn’t hit as hard as they say’ comfort zone, then good night sweet prince.
