Like always, many fights are hard to find because reputations are often being protected. I'd love to see the Ray Mercer-Felix Savon fight. A Cuban referee (corrupt) interferred so Savon would win. Any other examples of this?
The two modern Holy Grail fight films to me are: Danny Lopez vs. Sean O’Grady — “Little Red” stopped the Bubblegum Kid in four in 1976 in Los Angeles. Sean was a couple weeks past his 17th birthday and it was his first step-up fight. His corner stopped it after the fourth round. Never seen so much as a clip. Ray Leonard vs. Randy Shields — Sugar took a 10-round unanimous decision over 10 rounds in Baltimore. I feel certain that every Leonard bout was televised but maybe it wasn’t for some reason — which is odd considering Randy was ranked in the top 10 by the WBC at the time. This was his 15th fight and it had the added angle that Randy had defeated Ray in the amateurs. The seventh round is on YouTube from hand-held footage, clearly not network stock. I don’t think these are cover-ups to keep people from seeing them but you’d think film would have surfaced b now.
I'm going strictly by memory here, but I don't think Leonard - Shields was televised. As I kid I watched the rise of Sugar Ray on network TV, usually ABC, and I seem to remember being disappointed that this one wasn't on TV. Also, it was on a Friday night. Ray was usually featured on Wide World of Sports at that point, or on the undercard of a championship bout, say, a Larry Holmes defense.
I get frustrated at fights being taken down from YouTube. I mean, why pull a Duane Bobick or a pre-title Larry Holmes fight, for instance? It's not like it being on YouTube is stopping the copyright owner's (usually one of the TV networks or the promoter's) income stream. Until the networks come up with some system to post every event they've ever aired for a subscription fee (which I hope never happens), leave it up for educational purposes.
Just try find Wilder - Sconiers. Good f'ing luck. Wilder's MiB have scoured that vid from the planet. Too bad they can't get rid of what Fury did to him
Gaspar Ortega vs Tony DeMarco I, II & III Benny Paret vs Charley Scott I & II Rafael Herrera's vs Rodolfo Martinez III Arnold Taylor vs Romeo Anaya Matty Clarkson vs Travis Dickinson Saad Muhammad vs Billy Douglas Victor Galindez vs Jesse Burnett I Marvin Johnson vs Davis/Williams
Saw all those light heavyweight gems and knew it was George. If any of them appear, let me know please.
Roy Jones - Gerald McClellan amateur bout is the one I'd like to see, somebody out there probably has camcorder footage of it sitting in their attic.
Sylvester Stallone's "adult" film. Lasted under 30 seconds but still interesting for historical purposes.
