the great Tyson Fury is a 2 time champion, going back 5 years, and still has ZERO title defenses

this is getting into Hasim Rahman territory.

how will his legacy stand the test of time of he finishes his career with a paltry 1 or 2 defenses? particularly if they come against a Tim Schwartz or Otto Walin type fighter

    A fair point well-made.

His title defences, or lack of for that matter, might turn out to be a bit irrelevant if he thumps Joshua. For the time being that is, I mean who's going to dethrone him? We're in urgent need of some much needed quality fighters in the heavyweight division.

I mean he retired after he won the title the first time.

After beating Wilder to win it again he tried to make a fight in December which fell through for legal reasons I suppose.

I do think he'd be unwise to get straight into a shot fight with AJ though.

And? We all know why, so don't pretend it's because he avoided a title defence because he was scared or something.

Name Riddick Bowe's title defenses without googling.......................Sometimes defenses don't tell the entire story. If you get the right fights, you'll still be remembered.

This implies that it was Fury’s choice and not the result of doing enough cocaine to kill a small elephant. Everyone seems to want to gloss over the fact he disrespected himself, the title he just won and his fans, not to mention the sport by binge eating and partying.

I know he was mentally ill. I’m glad he got help and came back to eat Wilders soul.

I would also add Andy Ruiz jr. spoke of depression and mental illness after beating Joshua, fake friends coming after his new wealth. Andy disappeared from life to such a degree that no one knew where he was, not even his trainer and he anxiety ate his way to two hundred ninety pounds.

Andy Ruiz jr disrespected himself, his trainers and the fans when he came in fat, even for him and out of shape for the Joshua rematch. I have stated in Ruiz jr posts exactly how little I think of him for this.

When Fury did the same thing before the Klitschko rematch, ballooning up to three hundred thirty pounds and then retired I wasn’t on boxing boards but was curious if you remember him getting the same or similar disparaging comments as Ruiz?

Fury was terrified of other HWs after beating Wlad and Wilder.
He mentioned having nightmares about many defences AJ bravely faced: Brezeale, Molina, Takam...
More nightmares about Parker's defence against Cojanu.
Even some of Wlad's defences against Leapai, Jennings, PRIME Wach, PRIME Pianeta ... SCARED TYSON FURY SHTLESS!

If only Fury could have some of these incredible defences on his record, instead of just beating the best opponents. Defences are so important!

Tyson Fury has defended the lineal title 6 times. The most respected title in boxing history.

and how many people consider Bowe an ATG? most agree he was a wasted potential, and outside of his 2 wins over Holyfield his resume is pretty weak.

come to think of it, this is a great comparison, you pretty much just made my point

Who are the best opponents Fury beat?
Wlad was 3 month to 40 and his second best win Wilder was 35 and probably past it as well.

This is actually a good point. What Ruiz did was no different from what Fury did. People just like Fury as a person more and get caught up in his whole "heroic" comeback beating depression after throwing his belts in the trash and partying it up for years.

Actually, what Ruiz did wasn't as bad since he at least defended his title even if he wasn't in shape. Ruiz is roughly equivalent to Buster Douglas while Fury is basically Bowe 2.0 at this point unless he manages to stay focused and avoid his old habits.

His "legacy" in historical terms is weak .... but he's in a weak era and he only has to beat AJ now to absolutely confirm his place as the best of the post-Klitschko era (the era he started when he ended Klitschko's reign).

    It is what it is.

Fury's first title defence will be against AJ

    and he will dominate him

    Not bad
