He gave me his side of his career. How he got started, going under the radar to win the title, fighting out in Germany because the American casual audience didn't appreciate cruiserweight, Haye ducking him, the Thomaz Adameck robbery the Fury fight etc. This content is protected here's a link to the full thing. This content is protected here's a link to him talking about training for Fury and the fight.
He's right that Haye decided he was the only champ not worth pursuing for some odd reason. It's hardly like the undisputed fight wouldn't have been a huge one for him. Wonder what the motivation was for David to avoid it?
To be fair Haye made a lot of money by moving up to heavyweight and fighting Wladimir. It was probably the smart business decision. I always felt Steve Cunningham would have beaten him.
Yeah heavyweight money is a great motivator but even then Haye was already a big enough star to sell that fight. Perhaps he was afraid of Steve derailing the hype train after all.
Should have asked him why he's gone out of his way to slander Fury all of a sudden. Yeah furys forearm KO was illegal but Steve was on the downside of that fight anyway and the 2 were still cool for years after that. Now all of a sudden he is lending credibility to these brainless morons who are trying to drag boxing back into the duldrums with their conspiracies?
Love his ko of huck and willingness to face diablo overseas twice He had a pizzeria in philly during his time as champ and I remember asking someone if they knew where it was and they had no idea who he was. Sucks how he flew under the radar Got to see him vs tarver at Prudential
Yeah, the Fury stuff is a bit strange, they should bond over bashing Haye. He was one hell of a fighter at CW and at HW they only guy who has a clear cut win over him is Fury, who used roughhouse tactics and a bit of fouling, every other fighter could have also gone the other way. Him in his prime vs Usky would have been a great fight, Cunningham always had problems with Southpaws, but Usyk was never a big puncher. Still, I think it would have been one of the hardest fights for Usyk at that weight. I'm kinda surprised they never tried to make AJ vs Cunningham as a title defence, AJ vs the last guy who dropped Fury would have sold well in the UK. They could have showed the footage of him dropping Fury over and over again, it would have been a dig at Fury and selling the fight to the British fans would have been pretty easy.
Thanks for watching guys. Please if you enjoyed it subscribe and I'll have more top fighters and world champions on in the near future.
Never realised that he owned one of those. I meant to ask him about an Audi advert he appeared in but I forgot. Cunningham was punished for being a purist as he said when I asked him he stuck at Cruiser because he wanted to e the best. Had he done what Chris Byrd did and fought at heavyweight despite really being a cruiser his career would have made him a lot more money in my opinion.
I don't believe Haye ducked Cunningham. It came down to Haye wanting the big bucks at heavyweight than to fight Cunningham for all the belts. Haye would have probably beaten Cunningham.
