Would he have faced Louis next, and how would he have being seen going in to that fight? A hard hitting favourite perhaps, to beat the Bomber? And would a fight with max as champ actually turn out any different from their actual fight?
I think he would have faced Schmeling or Louis. Schmeling and Louis might have still been matched as an eliminator, and Schmeling wins that.
That's an interesting scenario. If Baer had still been champ and faced a Louis that had not long ago been kod, then I'm thinking Baer would be seen as perhaps a big favourite. Still see Joe ko ing Baer but max maybe a lot more confident? Who knows.
Louis Schmeling I happened in part because of Braddock's inactivity as champion. Louis Carnera made a lot more money than Baer Braddock, and this would have made a defense against Louis very tempting for Baer. Baer was making more money out of showbiz, than he was out of boxing at this point, and this might well have pushed him towards the big money fight with Louis. The problems that Baer had previously had making a fight with Schmeling, would likely have pushed him away from that option. Despite Baer's fearsome reputation, Louis probably enters the fight as a slight favorite.
