The point of carrying on, of course, is to hit the other guy back and try to win the fight. What's the point is being a heavyweight boxer if you're gonna quit because you got buzzed ?
The sparring story that has resurfaced is quite interesting, but I don't think it's quite as interesting as Bunce and Costello believe. There is an account by a trainer from that gym who was AJ's trainer at the time, @SambaKing1993 has posted it before. From what I can remember.. Rd 1 - Fury messing around and caught off guard by AJ who he clearly underestimated. Rd 2 - More even as Fury actually makes some effort Rd 3 - Fury begins toying with Joshua and gets on top. Then again, I'm not sure how much can be read into a sparring story from a decade ago.
Well if he was already dropped 4 times I doubt he’d want to risk more head trauma to impress the keyboard warriors
Unfortunately fights are not won by the gift of the gab but rather what will happen under the squared ring. We know what Fury is all about and AJ knows how to play him. They are not strangers to each other. It seems AJ not calling him out or talking about him has got under the skins of Fury and his Dad Big John.
Not really, this was also 10 years ago. In the scheme of things it's fairly insignificant as both fighters have improved hugely.
There is no skin thicker than gypsy skin Yes fights are won in the ring but a sharp tongue and wit can cause severe lacerations to the psyche and Fury says what he means and means what he says and his gypsy powers of prophecy are second to none An 18 y/o Fury Timestamped This content is protected ''2013 British champion'' - check. He achieved that in 2011 ''2014 European champion'' - check. Won the Euro title that year. ''2016 Undisputed HW champion'' - became the three-belt unified champion in 2015 and would've won the WBC by 2016 had the establishment not tried to ruin his life And back in 2013 he also prophesied that he would knockout The Tuscaloser and that has now come to pass too This content is protected Check out the expression on The Tuscaloser's face as Fury is prophesizing exactly what he's going to do to him This content is protected 99.9% of fighters would've been gravely injured here but Fury's gypsy sixth sense and his Gypsy Slickness saves the day This content is protected Like father like son This content is protected
Joshua doesn't have a hope at the pressers. I reckon by the time he gets into the ring he'll have visibly shrunk due to the psychological beating Fury will have given him.
They sparred 3 rounds Fury wanted another/extra round but AJ's coach pulled him out It's hard to find good sparring for young green big guys like Fury and AJ. When an opportunity like that comes along they both have to take it with both hands. Sounds like AJ held his own then started to falter against a man who could push him back and handle his physicality, something AJ is not used to. Mike Perez quit against a 20 year old Fury in sparring to Fury's annoyance.
AJ is not talking about it at all, it’s Fury and his dad Big John ( who personally I like a lot) who keep talking about AJ.Yes both fighters are improved but AJ was a novice then.
Yeah, Joshua just ignoring Fury or at least not biting doesn't seem to sit all that well with Fury, although all the smack talk will have very little baring on the fight once the bell goes. Smack talk can work one of two ways with Joshua, Breazeale took a quite purposeful and sustained beating as did Whyte while Ruiz Jnr. killed Joshua with kindness. It'll be interesting to see what comes of the smack talk during the pressers for sure but, I really can't see Joshua folding like a cheap deck chair mentally.
First of all there is no greater admirer of Tyson Fury achievements than I. You will remember along with your good self I was one of the few predicting Fury would stop the tosser from Tuscaloosa, Alabama Beyoncé Wilder in their rematch. In the first fight I knew Fury’s boxing ability was so superior to Wilder’s that I called it agricultural. However whilst I am not qualified to talk about gypsy heritage I can speak about AJ’s specifically his Nigerian heritage which packs intimidating power, speed, intelligence and spirit. This is not Wilder this is a totally different animal you cannot get into his head. I get the feeling and sense the Fury’s don’t actually know what they are dealing with.
A guy who gets put down and keeps getting up did not quit. Dubois quit AJ kept getting up and the referee stopped it. Big difference.
