He did go 396-1 as an amateur, but professional boxing is different than amateur. In the amateurs it's almost all about technique. But in the pros they punch a lot harder, there is no headgear and you go 12 rounds. And they don't score rounds based on punches landed, but more on how hard and clean the punches are.

Loma is really skilled, probably the most technical fighter in the world right now. But he just doesn't have it when it comes to getting in the trenches. It doesn't matter how good your defense or skills are. Eventually you're going to get hit hard. And eventually you will have to open yourself up if you hope to land anything decent. Loma is not that guy as far as really getting into the fight when you necessary.

well put. soludo proved that to everyone but people were still riding the hype train.
look I'm sure Lomas a nice guy and all, he's just not the second coming of Ray Robinson that everyone has anointed him as.
I would even put him behind Usyk at this point. I know he made Riggendoux quit, and someone should make him Time Magazine person of the year for that, they really should...
but in terms of long term professional legacy, this guy will be forgotten about quicker than Kelly Pavlik was

Lopez is bigger stronger longer and hits harder and also very skilled. Let me tell me you now. You dont rush with those guys, youre fighting at a huge disadvantage anyway. bad tactics cost him. But Lopez fought a very good fight.

Lol, salido was his second pro fight and if it went another round he’d of stopped him. Lomas problem is wear and tear through staying in the AMs to long, he’s on the slide

    He's a perfectionist.....99% of the time it's worked.

The 1% it didnt work exposed his mental state.

No he's just not a steroid cheat like Manny and all the rest of those multiple weight champ greats like Roid, Toney, Vargas, Holyfield, JMM, Morales, Shane and co, or a weight bully or a have gloves won't travel warrior who have the safety net in place of home refs and judges all the time to help facilitate their paths to victory. And unlike many of his celebrated top 10 P4P peers he was giving away huge physical advantages to everyone he fought at 135 and even often down at 126 and 130 he was giving away a significant amount of reach, weight or both and like fellow EE amateur greats Korobov, Usyk, and Beterbiev his body was already breaking down on him by his early-mid thirties due to his extremely extensive amateur career and training like a maniac since he was a 4 y/0

Teofimo ''No More Tall Fighters Anymore'' Lopez

Interviewer: ''Lomachenko is small for the weight class''

    Teofimo: ''Very!''

“He’s on the way out of the sport and 135 is just too big ,” the Honduran-American said.

Lomachenko, 32, started his career in 2013 as a 126-pounder. Lopez, 23, has fought at 135 since he turned pro in 2016.

''I think that he's on his way out. I really do believe that and 135 is just too much of a big weight class for him''

''If you look at the Luke Campbell fight, you can see there is just a lot of wear-and-tear on his body.

“I look at it like this—maybe this whole COVID-19 year helped him out. Maybe he needed it. That way he can probably at least hang in there a little bit with me. It’s going to be a great fight. I just look at the facts. You see a fighter who has gone up in weight class. Sometimes they go up too much where their body isn’t used to it, or the weight class is too big for them.''

“This man has had over 400 fights. I have over 150 fights. I’m 23. I’m going to tell you this, when I get to camp, oh man, my body aches sometimes. If I’m 23 and dealing with stuff at this age, I can only imagine what he must be going through at 32 with over 400 fights.”

''I'm not going to have a 126 pounder come out here and try and take over on me. I'm a big guy''

I suggest to watch the same young Povetkin or Briedis in amateurs. :bump:bump

I think most likely too long mileage under belt when turned into a pro.
Is he capable to crack? Yeah, it had been proved in pro ranks.

**** happens and looks that 135 lbs is too high for him. He performed vs Campbell better than I had expected.
Ok, lost 1 fight vs Lopez, it is not end of the world.

Ofc I'm concerned about so impressive mileage in amateurs, it might gave impact on resources remained in him.

If you think Kovalev and GGG were shot when Canelo fought them, Salido was a walking corpse.

There is not much glory is almost KO a tired old man who should have retired years ago with about 15 losses.

Let's be real. The Salido fight was a perfect promotional match up for Loma to give a signature title winning performance. Salido knew he was being underestimated and brought it back in any way, legal or not. Loma was supposed to win outstandingly and lost instead to a war torn veteran with a style advantage.

Yes and I posted a lot of these Lopez quotes before the fight and most of the responses were that Lopez was an idiot, Loma was going to school him and I was an idiot.

Kovalev was shot and drained and KO'd first by the rehydration clause, then Clenelo.

GGG was old, but had slipped plenty.

I was excited about Loma coming into the pro scene but as a big Salido fan I was saddened to see him be the one used as a stepping stone for someone with 1 pro fight. I can't say I wasn't happy when Salido won, it was a great way for the old man to finish his career, and the younger man still had many opportunities to come.

Lomachenko was winning pretty much every round vs Lopez when the fight went to the trenches. Did you even watch the fight?
