I think Baer benefitted from being powerful in an era of small heavies and wouldn`t been a world champ in this era, so I`d find it interesting to match him up with anyone under 220 that could beat him or have a fair chance of beating him, so which fighters would have beaten him, and which fighters undder 220 would have beaten him easily?

Baer had better record against fighters bigger than him than fighters smaller than him. He was the smaller man in one third of his fights and he faced plenty of fighters above 210 lbs.

A curious argument given that he had to beat the largest lineal heavyweight champion in history to win the title!

Carnera didn`t have the power of a modern top 10 heavyweight.

    What does that even mean?

You can find a modern top ten heavyweight who hits like a truck, and you can find one that is feather fisted.

Regardless of how hard he hit, 260lbs leaning on you then, felt a lot like 260lbs leaning on you now!

Baer was a less athletic, much less skilled Herbie Hide. So, imagine a guy not as good as Hide and think of the hundreds of guys who could beat that.

Carnera had plenty of power, but its hard to knock guys out when you can’t land clean on them, but when Carnera was able to land clean he didn’t have any problem knocking people out. Carnera fought a lot of guys that were durable, crafty, and very experienced. Carnera also pretty much fought every style.

All of the modern top 10 heavyweights have seen their power get neutralized.

Just out of curiosity how many of Carnera’s fights have you seen?

Also, when a guy is hard to land on and keeps you off balance it’s hard to land clean. I used to see Sakio Bika, my old roommate Ronald Gavril, and Medzhid Bektemirov make plenty of the top heavyweights that came through look clumsy.
