Whyte has a weird tendency to ditch his jab against opponents who move to him. Against Ortiz who keeps it long it's definitely the route to win the fight. Early rounds off the jab. Both slow late. So the early fight is massive. Ortiz doesn't use his jab as a weapon like Whyte. Ortiz has better footwork though
Well Ortiz shouldn't pull out with covid since he'll be one of the first to get the vaccine as they're giving it to the oldest folk first. It would be hilarious if the ancient Ortiz sparked out melonhead.
Wishful thinking I'm afraid, this WILL be PPV, no doubt about it, Dillian doesn't get out of bed early in the morning and go to his training camp for less than a couple of million. Let's see what Sky go for in the advertisements hyping this - Road to Redemption King Kong comes to Blighty All To Prove Very interesting fight though, everyone's talking about Ortiz KO'ing Whyte but aren't asking the question how will Ortiz react when he gets hit by Whyte who has power ??
Not well. And he'll get hit a lot, mostly by Whyte's double jab and right hand. Ortiz will be trying to measure Whyte up with his pawing lead right in order to land left straights to head and body, and while he's doing that Whyte will be pumping his jab in his face and blocking the majority of return fire on his forearms. The way Whyte throws a second lunging jab will be catching Ortiz out who'll be leaning away from the first, and not in a position to defend the second. This will stop him from getting his feet set or get his distancing down. If he manages to close distance with Whyte I see the left hook and right uppercut coming into play, shots that could very well cause Ortiz to do the chicken dance if they land flush. If he stays at range attempting to get one clean shot through I suspect Whyte keeps him at bay all night long, catching him with the odd right straight and left to the body/hip area. Ortiz's chances will come whenever Whyte switches off or decides to have a tear up. They won't be coming off anything he himself will be attempting to do.
Whyte will likely try to establish his jab early, keeping Ortiz at long range where his options to do damage are limited. Ortiz's jab is ok, but he tends to use his lead hand as a pawing rangefinder ninety percent of the time, which works against lower level guys scared of his power and unwilling to commit but won't turn the trick against better quality guys like Whyte. Whyte's footwork is generally awful, true. But his heavy power jab and slight height advantage in the way they hold their stance will cause Ortiz major problems and stop him from landing his rear hand with any frequency. If Ortiz has a chance it's later in the fight I think, when Whyte might start to lose focus or get lulled into a false sense of security and shut down for the split second when Ortiz can land a heavy left straight to Whyte's jaw.
This is probably the easiest fight for Ortiz out of the current Top 10/12 HWs. Ortiz UD or counter KO.
They are literally the fourth and fifth rated heavyweights by Ring at this moment. Who's a REAL contender? Seriously. Even when contenders fight each other, some of you guys have nothing positive to say.
That's fair, I may be a bit harsh by saying that. I suppose where I am coming from is the thought that neither of them have a real chance to win a title. There are levels to this, and I don't believe either of them to be near the top, or in danger of reaching the top. I would favor them over maybe a handful of the top 20. They are good, decent journeymen, who are not a threat to win a title.
Wilder, Ruiz and Ortiz are all very good fights but theywon't happen. Not before the Povetkin rematch (unless Povetkin decides to retire or something).
